Yes Streak - HMB appears to be among the top teams in CCS at this point in season.

HMB was very good last year losing a tough one to Newman in Norcal playoffs. Weren't most of these kids back? I want to say there went 25-4 or something like that. I'm not surprised. Great coaching.

HMB was 25-5 last season and returns most of their core players who've all grown a bit since last season. Looking at last season's record & the players returning its no wonder the HMB Cougars have started out 9-0 so far this season. Here are the impact returning players from last years squad:

Andrew Saffold 5'10 - PG - 3.2 PPG
Ryan Yerby 6'5 - SG - 2.9 PPG
Tommy Nuno 6'4 - SF/G - 9.6 PPG
Jake Salinero 6'1 - G - 6.1 PPG
Austin Hilton 6'7 - C - 12.1 PPG

In addition HMB returns 3 other back-ups who contributed, so returns a total of 8 players from last years 12-player squad.

You also have the Dr to deal with. Argueably one of the top coaches in NorCal. Although they are clearly favorites, he relishes the role of the underdog and with HMB being a small school, he would love nothing better than to beat his counterpart on the other side of 92 (those window breakers ;)) and his old jedis, Moleman at M-A and RB at Riordan. Lets just hope that the PAL twinkie schedule they have to play doesn't catch up to them like it did last year. As the great iHOP use to say, fattening up on cupcakes don't get you ready for the post-season.

Serra 80-45 over Napa on Saturday - Killingsworth was top scorer with 20
Mills 68-61 over Arcata who came into game 8-1

Palma should be in the thick of things at year end as well for small schools.Defeated HMB last year and lost in a close one this year so far. Palma returns 4 starters and lots of backups from last season. They should win league and also could make an impact in Norcals.

Palma defeated Santa Cruz and Patterson in Aptos Nor-Cal Invitational and is in finals on Wednesday night...plays HMB again in a rematch if HMB defeats St Patrick St Vincent tonight...or SPSV if they defeat HMB tonight and also defeat Bells tomorrow. Not sure how they determine a tie breaker if SPSV wins and then loses to Bells.

Update---Palma v HMB in the NorCal Invitational finals on Wed 12/30 at 7pm at neutral siight - Kaiser Permanente ....should be a good game. These two teams may face each other at least one other time this season.

Palma 42 HMB 40 Final
@ Aptos Nor-Cal Basketball Tournament Gold Division Final. Palma redeems earlier loss and gives the Cougars 1st loss of season in a nail biter. Palma was up by 7 in Q3 and HMB brought it to 1 pt and had the ball with 14 seconds in game. These teams are very close after HMB pulled out the win earlier in the season. They could face each other again in playoffs and/or NorCals if they both make it.
