Maxpreps is very high on Riordan this season, With all that talent they’ve brought in the past 3 years you would think they would at least make it past the first 2 rounds of the playoffs but we’ll see. Again they have Folsom as the number 1 team in Nor Cal when we know they won’t be in the open game silly but Typical Maxpreps has always had a soft spot for Folsom. Seeing SRV and Pittsburg this down in the rankings this season is sad, Both teams don’t return very much and will have to prove to everyone that they still belong at the top of NorCal football. Pittsburg does have Transfers from CV and DLS coming in but they still only return 3 starters on both ends but it’ll definitely help Pit, SRV on the other hand will have to hope their underclassmen are ready. Could we see a NCS open title game DLS vs CN with Frank on the sidelines for CN? It’s very possible considering top NCS teams are rebuilding. Serra all the way at 14 caught my eye. As of now they only have 1 D1 player in their senior class and have to replace their whole offense. Serra’s strong point will be their Defense who will have to carry this team this season against elite teams. Less than 3 months until kickoff!!

After top two it will end very different. DLS will be very fast team and lots of talent. If QB plays well, they will be tough and record should be very good given the schedule. Change in coach won't help Cardinal Newman that much. St Francis has some very good frosh that will be sophs coming up and talent. Riordan will be talented but have to prove they can win the big games and be consistent and Serra should be decent.

Maxpreps has been high on Riordan for the last two years. But they have yet to put together a top winning team with their top talent. Maybe this will be the year. There's still a lot of preseason adjustments to come in the ratings over the next 3 months.

Nice write up! Any reason why you capped it at 16 instead of something like 20, 25 or 15?

Actually Folsom will have a very compelling argument for being the Open bid this year if they can go undefeated. They have a good schedule this year - it would have been better than DLS' schedule if they had scheduled some team on the way upper side of WCAL's SHC.

Rankings Observation...

Are the teams outside of Bosco and MD that much better than NorCal's best? It looks like NorCal's best teams need to schedule more preseason games against top SoCal programs like Sierra Canyon, Centennial, Santa Margarita, and Orange Lutheran, etc.

It’s great to see Folsom taking on Mission Viejo and matchups like Grant vs. Lincoln (San Diego).... but to truly measure where NorCal stands, we need to see how we stack up against more of SoCal’s elite teams.

Im on record...we can come back to this post at the end of the season and mock me or gloat..lol

"Change in coach won't help Cardinal Newman that much"

THAT post will not age well....

And thats all I'm going to say about that.

This is something I've state as well. A lot of NorCal teams swing for the fences by choosing to play SJB and MD, but there are a number of high-quality teams that would be a lot more competitive to play.

No way SI should be on that list. They lost way too much talent from last years very good team including the coach. Freshmen and JV finished on lower half of WCAL.
Agreed. They lost a ton of senior leadership to graduation, outgoing transfers with the Vandermade. Of course the cupboard is not bare. There is a Olshansky on the roster and if hes anything like his dad...

I was gonna do it at 15 but I wanted to add SRV to the list so I went with 16. I feel like the gap between teams ranked 10-15 vs 16-25 is too big of a drop off but I get what you’re saying. Top 25 makes the most sense

We had this conversation last season about who would go to the open if DLS and Folsom both go undefeated but Folsom lost to a 6 Loss Serra team at home lol if DLS and Folsom both go undefeated DLS should get the bid on having to beat tougher opponents but I know the CIF really wants 5 Star QB Lyons in that game for ratings. They have a camera crew following that kid around this season. But this whole conversation is dumb DLS and Folsom should have to prove to everyone by playing each other on field for the NorCal title. BRING BACK THE NORCAL OPEN GAME.

I like the Folsom vs mission Viejo matchup even tho Folsom in for a really really tough game

But I agree it's 10-15 great teams in so cal

Nor cal teams don't need to swing for the fences for Bosco mater dei centennial or Viejo all the time

I understand de la salle or Folsom but after that the others should play the other 6 to 10 teams

Servite
Orange Lutheran
J serra
Santa margarita
Sierra canyon
Lincoln
San Clemente
Long Beach poly
Los alimitos
Serra gardena

It would be more competitive and great for nor cal

Serra will beat Folsom again this year and end this conversation early again, the Serra defense will be a lot better then last year's team that gave up one legit score to Folsom. Short field (15 yard field) and fluke lateral play on the last play of the half were the other two scores. Folsom will struggle early and press again and won't be able to stop the run game, and will also make a stupid coaching decision on a 4th down in their own territory. Not to mention it will be the only day game Folsom has played since the last time they traveled to Serra.

IMO, Folsom's scheduling of last year's LBP was a misfire and would have played against them in the Open discussion. This year, with MV on their schedule, they have a strong bid if undefeated. Like I said before, SHC is the only downside to a dominant bid for Open over an undefeated DLS.

Some of this is LBP's lack of recognition that it no longer is a premier program anymore. They got clobbered by a number of teams last year. They're still playing San Diego Lincoln and Mission Viejo this year.
