Monte Vista/Modesto Christian

MC wins 47-44 per their twitter. 3 years straight they open playoffs on road with a win.

Costly turnover by Mitu sealed the game. He had an incredible senior year. To me he's more valuable to monte vista than Rabb is to Odowd. He should be NCS POY

This is a really good three year run for MC. They will now play in two of the toughest gyms in the Bay Area with MV and Serra.

This was a great game. MC led early and was up 15-10 after one. MV came back and got it to 22-20 at the half in a defensive battle.

The key play in the game came in the 3rd qtr with MV up by 3 points with their largest lead of the game at 29-26. MC had the ball as the shot clock was winding down, and Wilson LaShells blocked a shot in the key with 1 second left. There was a furious scuffle for the ball and after about 3 or 4 seconds MC ended up with possession and Idehen scored to make it 29-28.
The problem is the shot clock should have expired as MV never had possession of the ball, but the MV clock operator had an apparent brain fart and restarted the clock after the block, so the buzzer never actually sounded. The ball never came close to touching the rim. Nick Jones yelled to the refs that the shot clock had expired, and everyone assumed they would confer and make the correct call. But when it became obvious they were just going to let it go, Jones was incensed and came out onto the floor drawing a technical foul and before you know it MC was actually ahead in what should have been Mustang ball with a 3 point lead looking to make it 5.

The game seesawed back and forth after that with neither team getting much of an advantage. With MC up 1 and about a minute left, Mitu tried to draw a foul and the defender stayed put, so he tried to throw an off balance pass back out to the top of the key. Townes jumped the route intercepting the pass and went down for a resounding essentially game clinching dunk. MV had one last chance as Mitu put up a last second 3 from the corner, but he was closely guarded and it wasn't close as the Crusaders celebrated and lives to play another day.

The non-shot clock call was pivotal, but the calls went both ways all night and MV had their chances but did not deliver when it mattered most in the final 2 minutes. MC has a great group of athletes and Midgley is a solid coach and had MV well scouted. The MC-Serra game should be a good one, after Serra's complete dismantling of Moreau last night.

Observer, I couldn't agree with you more. The shot clock play was critical and it's a correctable call (being a ref, I know this and it should have been corrected) and not only did they get it wrong but when Trevor gave Jones a T, that just made things worse. I thought for the most part the game was officiated well but they did drop the ball on the shot clock not going off and being reset. I would also agree that Midgley had Monte Vista scouted well. He knew by there sets, what plays they were coming and he was one step a head of them all night long & a big reason why Modesto Christian won.

Norcalscout-If you truly are an referee I would think you would know it is not appropriate nor professional to name an official by name. I would assume that this official would prefer to have his name removed from your post; no I am not "Trevor"

Refhoops, Why are us official on higher grounds then anyone else. I didn't hear you same anything when I mentioned Midgley or Jones? Players and coaches are mentioned on here and us officials should be accountable for the actions or lack there of. Each game I have worked, they always announce the referee's names and this game was no different. Get off your high horse and once you put yourself on the same level as the players and coaches, you will become a much better official, it took me a while to learn that and I am hoping it's not to late for you.

Scout- Good for you and thanks for putting Refhoops in his or her place. I have no idea which ref you are but their egos are becoming bigger and bigger and some think they are unapproachable. I was not at this game but I had a few friends that were and everyone said it was a horrible call, that three refs would not know how much time is on the shot clock and once it was pointed out, why none of them would have corrected their mistake. I also heard the Technical on Jones was crap, one of the three refs, should have calmed him down and told him they would discuss the matter between themselves and we will get it all worked out. They would of had to kick me out of the gym if that same crap happened to me. It sounds like you didn't agree with the call either and in your eyes, could have easily been corrected and worked out. I am glad all refs don't think and act alike and is sounds like this should be a great learning moment for Trevor. Keep up the great work on here.

With over 8 minutes left in the game, this one play decided or significantly impacted MV's fate.... OK.

Also love the disdain for officials but not the same for a coach who lost his cool in a game that ended his teams season.

The ref definitely made a bad call. But Coach Jones was out of line, I think the T was justified. From a Monte Vista fan.

I didn't say this one play decided the game. Quite the opposite. The last 2 minutes decided the game.
