Thr Rio Raiders will face the Sacramento Dragons…

Sac is 20-6, Rio is 22-4.

The two teams have played plenty of common opponents, Sac is 10-2 against those, Rio is 13-2.

They have faced each other once, Rio beating Sac rather soundly at their place, 86-60. Each has split a pair with Capital Christian.

Should be quite a game, which I bet will be much closer than their last meeting.

This is my first time here…. Gotta like the parquet floor!

Anyway, Rio’s frosh won by quite a bit, I think 54-37. That was a reversal of their last meeting, where Sac won 59-51.

JV’s coming right up…

A Sac JV just dunked on somebody…

I only heard the commotion, being at the snack bar…

JV dunks are NOT common!

Sac leads 28-14 in mid-2nd quarter.

For my own reference…

Rio top players:

11 Luke Mason
23 Miles Lake
22 Jace Thompson

Sac top players:

3 Mike Wilson
2 Sir Marius Jones
5 Kendahl Hearne
10 Shabol Barksdale

Rio scores first, Thompson…. 2-0.

Sac drives base, scores right back…. 2-2.

Lake drives right past Sac for a layup, 4-2.

A stop, Lake again….

Hearne makes it 6-4.

Lake yet again, 8-4 Rio.

Barksdale with a short J from the baseline, 8-6… but Mason hits for Rio…. 10-6.

Mason fouled on a turnaround J, 2 shots…. FT’s split, 11-6 Rio.

A Rio rebound, GREAT pass to Howell for a score, 13-6 Rio…. Sac calls time, 3:41 left 1st.

btw, if Rio wins tonight, they get the league title outright…. if Sac wiins, there’s a probable 3-way tie at 9-2.

Barksdale drives the lane, he’s fouled…. FT’s split. 13-7.

Mason with a silky-smooth J, but Sac scores right back…. 15-9 Rio.

2:22 left 1st.

Nice pass down low to Hearne for 2, but Mason nails a 3! 18-11 Rio.

Sac steal, but a great breakup of the 3-on-2 by Rio…

and Thompson hits a layup, 20-11…

Lots of steals and whistles ensue…. Barksdale. hits one of two FT’s, 20-12.

A terrific try with just a couple seconds left, a Rio shot bounces out at the buzzer.

Sac with a 3 by Wilson, 20-15 Rio.

Steal by Wilson, he drives and lays it up…. 20-17.

6:03 left in the half…

Steal by Sac, pass ahead to Hearne, he scores to get within one…. Rio 20-19, 5:24 left, Rio time out.

Mason nails a 3…. 23-19 Rio.

Nice drive and score by Sac, but Thompson nails a Rio 3…. 26-21.

Rio gets a stop, on the break, pass to #2 Howell, Rio makes it 28-21. Sac’s turn to call time…. 4:27 left.

3-pointer for Jones of Sac…. 28-24.

GREAT Lake pass to Mason for an easy one…. 30-24.

Thompson’s turn to hit a Rio 3…. 33-24.

Sac puts one back, 33-26.

Howell off a great pass, inside score…. 35-26 Rio.

#4 of Sac scores inside…. 35-28.

Howell again off another nice pass by #5 Newberry…. 37-28, but Sac scores right back…. 37-30 Rio.

Corner 3 by Wilson for Sac…. 37-33.

Rio loses it over the baseline…. 6.8 seconds for Sac. Quick corner 3 is… an airball. 37-33 Rio at the half.

Lake hits a 3 to start the half, Rio is up 40-33… and Sac is called for a charge…

Lake drives, fouled on the way up. FT’s good, 42-33 Rio.

Tip-dunk by Barksdale!

But Lake drives and scores…. 44-35.

Wilson fouled on the way, FT’s good. 44-37 Rio.

Sac steal, but #1 of Sac tries to destroy the rim, but charges.

Rio turns it over, Jones gets a corner 3 to drop for Sac. 44-40 Rio, 5:10 left 3rd.

Jones again for a score after a Sac stop…. 44-42 Rio.

Sac with another stop, they have a shot to tie or lead here…

Jones hits a very quick corner 3! 45-44 Sac.

Mason with a smooth J…. 46-45 Rio. Dragons call time…. 3:23 left 3rd.

#10 Miller nails a straightaway 3 for Rio…. 49-45. This after a great double-team steal and pass…

Wilson does the ol’ throw the inbounds pass off a defender’s back, gets it and is fouled…. FT’s good. 49-47.

Dragons get a stop…. but #12 Marikova of Rio takes a charge!

Mason drives and scores…

51-47.

Great pass to Barksdale for a score, but Lake nails a 3! 54-49 Rio…. and the Dragons throw a pass to the snack bar…

Marikova drives baseline and scores…. 56-49. (It so happens I am sitting right next to his granddad!)

Rio gets another stop…

Lake drives at the last second, is fouled…. FT’s good…. 58-49. Dragons last-second halfcourt heave catches rim, but nope…. That’s the end of 3.

Backdoor pass, Lake to Thompson, easy score…. 60-49 Rio.

Corner 3 for Sac…. 60-52.

Lake gets into the paint, shot bounces out, but he’s fouled. FT’s good…. 62-52.

Nice pass to Jones for a short runner…. 62-54 Rio.

Possession going nowhere, Rio calls time. 6:30 left, still 62-54.

Shot-clock violation, Sac gets the rock.

Near-steal, bounces crazily… and Sac #4 puts it in…. Look what I found, he said…. 62-56.

Terrific ball-fake, then pass to Mason for an easy one…. 64-56.

Hearne on a runout, makes a layup, fouled…. Missed the FT. 64-58.

Rio with a hurried shot early in the shot clock, nope…. Sac rebound, drive and score! 64-60 Rio.

But Mason scores off a great pass from Lake…. 66-60 Rio, 3:26 left in the ballgame.

#3 of Sac scores, beauty of a banks hot (on purpose), but Mason nails a 3…. and Rio steals and scores again! 71-62…. 2:14 left,

After several Sac tries fail, Lake drives and scores…. Finally, Wilson hits a Dragons 3…. 73-65. 1:24 left.

Newberry scores off a great pass from Thompson…. 75-65, Sac forced into the hack-n-hope now…. 22 seconds left, this baybee is all over but the shouting.

“THIS is OUR LEAGUE” shouts the Rio 6th-man…

76-65 final…. These guys are for reals!

I watched Rio beat Folsom earlier in the year. When they shoot the ball well it’s a very dangerous team. Those kids look like they’ve played together for a number of years and that chemistry goes a long way. Miles Lake can flat out play. Def a dangerous team.

I have watched Rio play five times this year. They were the best team with the best Coach. I saw him out Coach Capital Christian last week. Classic!
Beautiful to see that win. Congrats!

Rio seems to be flying under the radar. From the accounts hear, sounds Like they share the ball and shoot well.

Im Hoping to catch them in the playoffs.

Thx for the recap @kiddman32
