Yes Dublin is done.

To move onto NorCals, you need to reach the section semi-finals or be the highest seed left over from the quarterfinals if a team gets moved up to Open from your division. This second part is only enforced in the NCS

This just goes to show you how difficult it is for the selection committee to figure things out. I am not sure many of us on here would have picked Liberty over Dublin. Castro Valley, Berkeley & James Logan were teams we all thought and knew could be dangerous and two of the 3 are moving on. Not sure any of us saw Amador taking Freedom down to the wire but that's why they play the games. Mow we are getting into the big important rounds, so Friday is going to be filled with excitement. here are my selections.

De La Salle over Pitt, I like the way Pitt plays but I think they are going to what everyone else gets at this stage against the Spartans & that's an exit ticket to the end of your season.

Castro Valley over Liberty- I am surprised to see one of these teams here and that is Liberty. Castro Valley's pressure and speed should give Liberty fits but they impressed me last night and maybe they have a little magic left in that bottle.

Berkeley over Dougherty- Berkeley seems to be peaking at the right time and bringing there 4 game winning streak to San Ramon. Big, fast and physical will be major factors in this game but Dougherty plays some of the best defense I've seen all year so wouldn't surprise me one bit if they win but I am selecting the visitors.

Monte Vista over Freedom- If this is going to be anything like there first meeting, this will be an ugly and defensive battle. Both teams can struggle with consistency on the offensive side, I think Freedom will try to pick up the tempo and Mustangs will slow it down and grind it out. Inside out game of the Mustangs and having the best coach in this bracket will lead them to a close and ugly victory.

I think you called it accurately scout. Dougherty though has four guys who can help them score and they share the ball. So if Berkeley goes to sleep (hard to imagine at this level) they might get punished. DV will turn turnovers into points. If Freedom can get running MV has a problem. Castro Valley is a seasoned competitor and no surprise they made it through. Really, the only teams that were definite one and done's were College Prep and California. I give AV credit for making their game close. They are young and well coached. Next year and thereafter they'll climb.

NorCal scout: I agree thats why they play the games.. But if a team goes out in the 1st round of sections, frankly they are not that good, point blank! Too many overhyped kids.

NSBasketball, I don't disagree with you but Logan, Foothill, Heritage & Dublin are some pretty good teams & with some impressive records. I think it just says there is a ton of parity in all divisons but mainly D1. A #9, #12 & #13 all advanced, meaning a #4, #5 & #8 all were upset. Top 2 seeds in this bracket lived up to there seedings and the rest were a battle, as fans, that's what we want.

I guess where I don't agree with you scout is on the first two seeds living up to anything. They played teams that really are not competitive. Now with the current rounds they will see some quality. I know it's great for all of these kids to get some post season exposure but in the right kind of setting all first round games are tough.

Looking forward to the crucible now that the heat is turned up.

Scout: those teams all lost in the 1st round. More importantly they lost at home. You can make excuses & call it parity. People on this board have too many emotional attachments to kids and schools and many of us buy into the hype. A D1 player at any position can will his team to a win in the 1st round at home!

NS Basketball thank you for your honest opinion, because I totally agree with you regarding over hyped players. If you're playing at home you just don't lose in the first round.... On yesterday I wrote about two seniors from Salesian that you hear nothing about, but boy can these two kids play and they constantly win. So what defines a good player? Stats or winning?

Winning is what defines a great player! Any decent kid can go to the worst school in his area, never win and average 20ppg

Tonight I got:
Division 1
Dela over Pitt by 20
Castro Valley over Liberty by 8
Berkley over Dougherty Valley by 4
Freedom over Monte Vista by 6

That's why I used the two kids as prime examples. Salesian was picked to come in 4th in their league but they went 10-0 and won the league championship, but

Tonight I got:
Division 1
Dela over Pitt by 20
Castro Valley over Liberty by 8
Berkley over Dougherty Valley by 4
Freedom over Monte Vista by 6

I'll take DLS by 15
CV by 10 in an upset on the road
DV by 8 and
MV by 3 in an upset on the road

I don't see any team getting within double digits of DLS in NCS..

Especially with the draw that they have gotten as they won't play a team seeded less than #9 until the finals. Starting with the #1 seed which they earned, they got to play the #16 seed CP in the first round. Then the #9 seed Pitt knocked off the #8 seed Foothill and after tonight they'll get the winner of the #12 seed Liberty and #13 seed Castro Valley in the semi's. It couldn't have lined up any better for them, even though they would have blown everyone away even if they played the #2, #3, #4, and #5 seeds.
