NCS Open Teams???

Not sure how the NCS is going to be able to pull off seeding this year and I will explain why. Salesian, CN, Acalanes, and Heritage all get Auto Bid Home game guarentees as league winners. I also believe CLET still gets the EBAL auto bid home game this year as well regarless if we win or not. So with that being said, none of those five teams mentioned can matchup with each other in the first round of the playoffs as they all have an auto home game. That is why last year we had to travel to Heritage as a 3 seed. Even if you put O dowd in for Heritage as a non league winner it still makes it really tricky as these four ( Salesian, CN, Acalanes, CLET) can not play each other in round one.
Only scenario that I see possible if they want to make it work would be
Salesian and CN as the top seeds
SRV @ Acalanes in the 3 vs 6 and CLET vs O Dowd in the 4 vs 5. But Acalanes has already beat O dowd by 20 plus this year so why would they be seeded below them. If you put heritage in as the 6 the bracket becomes virtually impossible to make as 5 of the 6 would be guarenteed home games. So with that being said I would say O dowd is a lock over Heritage regardless of who deserves the 6th spot HAHA. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Or maybe I am wrong on how the Auto Home bid league winner works.

Locks..

Salesian
CN
SRV
CLET
Acalanes

And #6 will be either BOD or Heritage
I would include Marin Catholic in the conversation also. In talking to an NCS coach MC would be above Heritage as far as who the better team is. Neither team has a signature win unfortunately. O’Dowd has the head-to-head over MC and their schedule is significantly tougher than Heritage’s. Putting a team in the open who lost to Mitty 77 to 8 doesn’t quite pass the smell test. For these reasons it seems clear it’s O’Dowd.

1 and 2 bye
3v6
4v5
League champion get 1st rd home game over non champion. If both champions higher seed home. After 1st rd higher seed is home regardless if champion or not.

No shot for Piedmont?
Unless they change the rules no shot. I was told by a person who was in the meeting that in order to get the smaller division teams to vote in favor they had to promise no D4,D5 or D6 teams would be placed in NCS OPEN. Marin Catholic should have been an OPEN team last year also and didnt go and ended winning D4. And now with Piedmont this season weve had b2b OPEN BS.

Wow Thats informative thanks

The long term solution, for both NCS and for SJS to establish its own Open division, is to increase the number of teams in NorCals by adding outbracket games. The issue that every school has a vote, and there are more smaller schools than big ones -- and the smaller schools do not want to give up a chance to go to NorCals (for which I can't blame them).

For example, if NCS had 30 slots it could have a six-team Open and guarantee four slots to the top four teams in each division. As it is, the real losers in the installation of the Open are Division III teams, which have a lesser shot at the Open but still are only guaranteed two spots in NorCals.

Got it thanks. I thought league champs were guaranteed a home game no matter what in 1st round.
