should be a great night of hoops. Tomorrow
D 1 MV over Berkeley in a close one 57 to 52

SRV over Dela Srv let one get away last Time they learn from it and pull the upset
65 to 61.

D 2 El Cerrito keeps rolling past a gritty Las Lomas just to much speed and athleticism
gauchos win 74 to 60.

Dublin over Monty to much guard play from the gaels monty has the inside advantage
but can't keep pace with the scoring of falls and Knox.Dublin 64 to 56.

D 3 O'Dowd over Campo in a game better then expected I think Austin Clark could be the
key to keep Campo close.Paris will just be to much for Chen or yammato to contain
and rabb is rabb O'down wins it 66 to 57.

Drake over moreau in the game of the night. Both teams are playing really well I am have been
skeptical about moreau's offense and then they put up 81 on Miramonte to shut me up
games come down to late 4th quarter execution edge to drake. Drake wins 75 to 72

I'll try this:

MV over Berzerkeley 65-54
DLS over SRV 66-58

EC romps over LL 77-58
Monty over Dublin 61-58

O'Dowd over Campo 71-64
Moreau over Drake 70-63

I'm going to the O'Dowd-Campo game. I was hoping DLS, SRV and MV would get together somehow and rent a bigger gym for an epic doubleheader, maybe even a tripleheader with the Carondelet girls, but nooo... Good luck to anyone trying to get in for the DLS game in their too-small gym...

So, even though I live 3 or 4 miles from DLS, I'll have to drive right past the place and go to Laney for O'Dowd's girls-boys doubleheader.

Anyway, Campo has knocked off several apparently more-athletic teams along the way in a magical season and should be able to give the Dragons a battle... I think they'll fall a bit short, but the Dragons will know they've been in a real dogfight with those "tough kids from the streets of Moraga".

p.s. Thanks to whomever it was on this board that came up with the "streets of Moraga" line... I've been using that line all year. :)

You guys are leaving off probably the most competitive division. (D4).

Look at these games.

Cardinal Newman vs St Mary's Berkely
St Pats vs Marin Catholic

CN over St Marys' 50-45
MC over St Pats 62-60 (I like MC)

I'm debating going to DLS vs SRV. Do you think I will get in if I arive 530? Or should I go to Laney and see ODOWD.

Larry,
The SJS games at Sleep Train this week should be awesome.

Sheldon vs. Woodcreek
Folsom vs. Pleasant Grove

I am excited!!!!

G61- Good call. If it was last year I would say Folsom all the way. I just can't put my finger on why they haven't come together like I expected. My take on it is if the big guy plays well they will come out champions. (Russell). I know they will get great guard play. But I would be shocked if anybody wins by double figures. I think these games will all be close.

One thing that bothers me is why on earth do they play semi final games at Arco? Seriously, Folsom HS could accomodate enough fans for this game. The NCS schools get advantage of home games in most situations. SJS gets hosed because there is no good JC gym and sac state gym is a joke. Playing at Arco for a section Semi game is just not practical IMO.

You may not like the SJS semis being played in the old Barn. But, what a home court advantage SJS teams get for Nor Cal and State. A team like Folsom could be playing 4 times in 3 weeks at Arco. The first time kids shoot at that open background it takes some getting used to.

Larry,
I was at the Folsom GB game last week. Folsom really played poorly. They will be in trouble if they can't get it together quickly. Something seems off in terms of cohesion. I am not sure what it is.

I am personally not a fan of the games being at Arco/Sleep Train. I would much rather drive down the street to see Folsom play

Either way, should be a very interesting week!

Guys, atleast the Norcal Finals will be at Cal-Berkeley this year. Arco is terrible place for high school.Back in the day the game use to be played at Oakland colisuem and would almost fill the stadium in basketball.

Arco is a dive. Its no treat to play there or watch a game. I don't really buy that theory that SJS has an advantage. Rim is 10ft tall and FT line is 15ft. SCAL scores get to play at the Pond or one of the big venues down south. Most of these kids today are use to playing in big arenas from AAU and camps.

HAAS is going to be awesome for the state champ game. I've been to every MLK Classic and I love the atmosphere. Even when you have 1-2k fans it feels lively. How much you want to bet attendance is better than Arco? More people from the bay area will come vs driving to that dump in Natomas.

I seriously hope they blow up Arco. I won't go to a kings game today. Primarily because they are awful and the venue is garbage.

I'm going to DLS vs SRV tomorrow. Any east bay fans have update on tickets? When do they open window?
My backup plan is campo vs odowd. Not a bad backup.

I know DLS opened up tix sales to the public this morning, Monday was exclusively for basketball program families. SRV probably did the same. I'm guessing if you don't have one by now, you probably won't get in.

Excuse me. MOST of these kids are used to playing in 15k arenas from camps or AAU? Ahhhhh how out of touch are you with Nor Cal HS ball? Of the 6 Nor Cal teams that made it to last years state finals how many of them are on the Pro camp tour? I am sure that a ton of kids from CN and Monty play in those "Gyms" during the summer. Just like the groups of Drake St. Joes and Monte Vista kids travel in those circles.

I get the 10 ft and 15 ft coach Hackman....but playing in Arco 3 or 4 times helps kids to feel more comfortable than kids that have never played there before. Trust me. That doesn't mean Folsom is going to take down EL Cerrito because they have played in Sleep Train a few times. It just helps make the kids a little more comfortable.

You are better than that.

Thanks for the info. I will probably call DLS then to see. Maybe they can at least save me a trip. I got a backup plan.

As for the Arco thing I'm saying that a lot of kids these days have played at camps during the summer with portable rims that don't have backdrops. Whether its CAL, St Mary's, Santa Clara, UC Davis, etc.

I remember watching Klay Thompson when he played for Santa Margarita drop about 35 against Sac High at Arco in the state finals. His shot didn't look to impacted then and it doesn't look now. If you can shoot you can shoot. The one thing it screws with is you get some kids who want to jack up 3's from the NBA line. Its there one chance. Then the coach yanks them for a sec and calms them down.

Nice pic. Best sports movie ever.

Larry try San Ramon HS. I know you are a good Catholic school guy...but DLS is not into cooperation. Really.

Monte Vista over Berkeley- Two completely different styles of play and coaches polar opposites. Monte Vista has been struggling there last 4 games and badly I might add./ Berkeley is has two big wins so far but I think there NCS season ends here but a trip to NorCals is awaiting them. Monte Vista will need to get a 3rd person to contribute offensively. Mitu & LaShells have been carrying them all season and now would be a great time for Mileski to help out and lead this team.

San Ramon over De La Salle- I have said this from the get go, I think San Ramon might be the most talented team in this division and when they can every put it all together, they can be unbeatable. With that being said, De La Salle has had their number and Allocco doesn't lose to rookie coaches very often, if at all. Fuca is the big key for this game. He has lead this team on both ends of the court the last couple of weeks and with Smith's turnover to assist ratio, they are running a lot of their offense thru Fuca. Spackman & Polosky will have to come up huge cause Peters and Ratinho will be ready to compete at both ends. I am thinking of a slight upset and another huge showdown against Monte Vista.

El Cerrito over Las Lomas- I too could see a lopsided game here but I think the Knights have some more fight left in them and though I don't see them pulling off a huge upset, I think it will be closer then most would think.

Dublin over Montgomery- Montgomery is limited how many people can score the basketball but they do play solid defense and that helps when you have a 6'11 defender who is athletic and skilled. Septimo will be a tough assignment for any of the Gaels, who have been playing better on the defensive end since NCS. Dublin can score a bunch of different ways and I think if Falls & Knox can get some help, then an upset will take place in Santa Rosa.

O'Dowd over Campo- The Cougs will do whatever possible to stay in the game and keep it close but I think talent will beat coaching here tonight. Hansen should be a great match up for Rabb and we will see how he does up against someone bigger and such a great defender.

Moreau over Drake- I will be at this game tonight & think this might be the best game on the board, right up there with Dublin & Montgomery. I think this will be another clash of two different styles of play but in the end to much Frayer & Milstead. Moreau will have to play better and smarter then they did against Miramonte or else I could smell an upset here.

I like MV and SRV... I think Smith for SRV will be the best player on the court tonight. And MVs defense will just be too much for Berkeley.

D2 EC in a blowout and Dublins guards will lead them to a victory on the road.

D3 the 2 best games of the night. I like BOD and Moreau. I really really like Campo but Odowd is just on a diff level than all the other schools out here this year. Campo will put up a fight but Odowd will keep them at a distance. Moreau and drake played earlier this yr and MC won without Milstead. He makes such a difference for that team on both ends. I think Drake will make it tough our MC will pull it out.

D4 I like the TCAL schools. St Mary's will get it's revenge vs Newman. Newman won a squeaker earlier this year but I believe St Mary's should've won that game. I think the league schedule may have toughened SMB up a little bit so that they'll be able to overcome CN this time. St pats should be able to handle Maric Catholic. Although that kid Calceterra is a ball player. He put on a show vs Salesian, but Salesian have that game away more than MC took it. I'm just guessing they won't be able to beat another TCAL team on the road.

D5 I like Stuart Hall and University. Urban has nobody that can compare to Collins for SH. He will have a field day. And I think University is finally ready to get past SJND after losing to them the last 2 yrs in the NCS finals. Just sucks for them that now Stuart Hall has emerged and is the team to beat this yr instead of joes

Should be exciting.

I'll just give my sjs predictions as well

D1 Woodcreek/ folsom
D2 Sac/ Modesto Christian
D4Cap Christian/ liberty ranch

Tickets are still available at DLS for game. Just go to bookstore window. (Open until 3pm). I'm excited.

Good picks guys. Alot of tough games out there but the good thing is these teams will advance to norcals. But you don't want to have to be a road warrior from here on out either. I think the TCAL schools are pretty even with the two catholic powers in the north bay unlike other years. MC wins. I'm telling you. They are very good. Newman and St Mary's will be tough..... It will come down to FT's I think.

I like Monty at home too. That place is crazy. They have faced better than Dublin this year and won.

Scout. What are you talking about re K Smith? He is a one man press breaker. There is no guard around CC County with better quicks and handles than Smith. Assist to turnover ratio???

Nate, I am a big fan of Smith and his game and he does have nice handles & is hard to contain while pressing, there is no doubt about that. I would like to see him play more under control and value possessions. Since you asked about his Assist to Turnover ratio. Here are his last 5 games & not charted by me but from within the San Ramon Program, so you be the judge if what I am saying is correct.

Foothill: 5 assists, 3 turnovers. Win

DLS: 2 assists. 7 turnovers. Loss

Monte Vista: 1 assist to 10 turnovers. Win and finished with 18 points

Dougherty Valley: 1 assist to 5 turnovers. Win

San Leandro: 3 assist to 8 turnovers. Win

Total: 12 assists to 33 turnovers. Almost 3 turnovers for every assist.
