New turf at Del Oro and Placer High Schools

This morning the PUHSD put out this in an email:

Installation of new synthetic turf at Del Oro and Placer High Schools will begin in early June and is expected to be completed in time for the Fall 2019-2020 school year.

These artificial turf projects are solely funded by restricted District facility funding sources, and not by Measure D or Measure G General Obligation Bond monies. Specifically, the reserve fund for capital outlay projects (with some monies generated from facilities’ rental income) and developer fees will fund the projects.

This investment at both schools presents multiple benefits to our students and communities, as these campus areas are available to multiple sports teams, physical education classes, our marching bands and year-round community events.

Excellent news. Some of the rug burns on the player in my house won’t go away from last season. Both fields were very much due for a major facelift.

The Del Oro field isn't that old??? I am surprised it needs changing?
Now the Placer field, I am old school but times are a changing and it is as old school as one can get.....

Del Oro's synthethic turf was originally installed in 2007. It is in very poor condition. The turf is coming apart at the seams in many places, and the underlying water table has caused many low spots making the surface very uneven.

Like you I'm torn about LeFebvre Stadium. It is old school and I love it. But in the winter it becomes so muddy. And they will no longer have the maintenance of watering, mowing, striping etc.

Inderkum is getting new turf as well. We were told 25 years but the company that did a lot of the local schools cut corners or did a bad job w/instalation and have already put in new turf on some of their past jobs.

I like Placers field for that very reason.

Yea as Ken says the DO field is wrecked. Badly needs replacing.

TR,I am saddened after all these yrs of grass,but i’m also excited at bringing Hillmen stadium up to date and given a NEW look.I’m ok with it,it will be good for other sports and activities.But I am a lil torn to see it go!Go Placer
