That list looks pretty good... I predicted 7 of those 8 before the season plus Mitty, but with Kone out for the year, I could see Serra grabbing a 2nd CCS spot... Salesian maybe in the mix??

If things play out that list looks pretty darn accurate to me. Maybe Sheldon? I'm not entirely sure if they wouldn't just stay in D1

HMB is really good this year. I would love to see them stay in D4 and possibly bring home a state champ. They certainly would be in the driver seat. (I'm using the LA powers like Bishop Monty aren't playing D4).

The PAL is really bad. One of the worse leagues around. I just don't think going to the open serves them well. I think they could knock off a team but I don't see them going any further.

Look at it this way for HMB... they will 100% be in the CCS open... if they do well there and say make the ccs open final but lose to St. Francis, they've earned it... but if they lose early to a 3rd or 4th place WCAL team, send them to D4 for Norcal... CCS open actually makes it really easy to pick open teams from...

While I agree with most of this post. I think the committee will still have the memory of last year's throttling by Serra in their minds. They need to at least reach the CCS open finals and that may not even be enough.

Agreed, they'd have no chance to win NorCal Open, but can run the table in D4

I agree that NCS and SJS should have an open division. Then each section could send their best rep and everyone else could play in their divisions for the state play-offs. That is basically what Southern Section does and is why Sierra Canyon won a state championship last year cause they were bounced out of the section playoffs early but because they were in open they automatically qualified for the state play-offs.

Yes, if HMB does not win CCS Open they should be put in NorCal D4.

Sierra Canyon playing D5 last year was a joke. Poor University.
My hunch is HMB will end up in D4 where they will do great.

Does Sheldon qualify for Open Division? Based on past record and this year's performance does Freedom qualify for the Open? Remember, if you qualify and get called to go Open there is no opting out.

Here is what CIF says as far as qualification rules for the Open Division:

The following criteria will be utilized to select the teams for the Open Division for the CIF State Basketball Tournament. A school needs to only satisfy one of the criteria below to be considered:
*A school must have won two consecutive section basketball championships (current year and previous year); or a school must have qualified for the regional championships for three of the past four years. (including current year)
**A school qualifies for the second straight year after competing in the state or regional final the previous year.
***A school competes in its section open division semi-final.
****A school was ranked in the Top Ten of Cal Hi Basketball, Cal Preps and/or MaxPreps Rankings (early March) the past two years (current year and or previous year).
*****A school qualifying for their regional playoffs may request to be placed in the open division. Evaluation Tool:
A schools strength of schedule will be used to evaluate the strength of the program. (i.e., regional or national type of schedule). Entry Cap: No more than four teams may be selected for the Open Division (North Only). o Sections may choose to replace selected teams in the division from which they were selected (North)

Interesting that it says only 4 open class teams for North. I went to the CIF website and that is exactly what it says, so does that mean that each section sends 1 rep or no rep from north section and 2 from another section?

I am pretty sure it refers to a maximum of 4 teams from any one section in NorCal, and is not referring to the Northern Section.

For instance, if SJS had 5 of the top 8 teams, they could still only have 4 of them go to the Open. No minimums for any section for the field of 8, just a max of 4.

All they said was 4 in open from North,(did not say anything about northern Section). I agree that 4 max from any section makes sense and if that is what they mean then that is what they should have said.
