I think it will be an 8-team NorCal Open and your 8 team lineup looks good. There are too many Southern Section Open caliber teams to have Clovis West and Clovis North included in the South.

I was told by the section that maxpreps rankings are a deciding factor on seedings

I'm not sold on the Clovis teams coming North until it actually happens.

If the CIF decides to do it...I still dont think Clovis North is put into the Open. I think they stick in D1.

My take is Clovis North has never won a section title and last year was really their 1st ever really good year and they got thrown right into the So Cal Open.

Honestly they got kinda hosed last year....stick them in D1...they wont even be the top seed in Socal D1 with all the big time programs in the SS

The crazy thing is with the North Open is that the NCS is considered(I would think without an argument) the strongest overall section in the north. Mitty and SMS can be considered the top 2 teams. With the potential of the 2 Clovis Teams coming North we could be looking at the NCS puting 4 teams in the OPEN and all 4 teams BEING ON THE ROAD.

If that happens THAT WOULD BE A COMPLETE FAIL ON THE PART OF THE NCS COMMISSSIONER.

I don't think NCS would get 4. They would have to take 2 from SJS. Most likely Antelope, with Section D2 Section championships 2 out of last 3 years (really should have been 3 in a row).

So you think SMS will get the 2 seed then?

I’m non-plussed trying to understand why SMS is ranked so high on CalhiSports. Presumably it’s based on their victory over Rosary Academy. They also have a loss to BOD, who has already been beaten in NCS Open. They lost to Clovis North, then avenged that loss in a rematch the following week. But what about the rest of schedule? Not impressive enough to me to merit their high ranking, and I believe they certainly should be seeded after the NCS Open winner. Seems like a no- brainer to me.

They beat #1 team n Nevada, centennial LAs Vegas by double digits and beat Miramonte by 37

There are definitely arguments to both sides, but I think we can agree they will most likely be either the 2 or 3 seed with a win tonight in SJS D1 final. Obviously these teams want to be 2 seed so can have home court advantage. and definitely dont want the 4 seed and travel to Mitty in semifinal.

SMS could easily lose tonite. However, they have shown they can play against the best. They lost in a great championship game in Hawaii to Mater Dei. That game went back and forth . So if the object is to give the north the best representation. Then if they were to win tonight then I think they should be 2 seed. I see they are also 8th in the country on maxpreps computer rankings. Whatever that means.

Well my order of the top 5 was correct at least!

So Open is basically a four-team Bracket with a play in-game.
Yes, I don't agree with that type of format. If you are going to take 5, then make it balanced and take a 6th team. I can see why they moved Salesian, BOD and Clovis North down to D1, as they want the North to have it's best shot at winning a D1 State Championship. But really CN is the one team that gets penalized the most by coming back to beat Salesain in NCS Open Semis and making it to NCS Open Championship game and losing an extremely tough and close game vs SJND. Salesian gets rewarded with Top seed and home games throughout. CN and SRV are ranked as 2 and 3 in Maxpreps NCS (top Section in NorCal), and both put on the road in 1st round games.
