Reasoning I was given: If we were to use the former name in any marketing capacity ("Formerly known as") Park N' Rec could come back and ask for a kickback.... So it goes...

Its a generic tourney name of a public high school fundraiser. We're at over 20 teams already. Am I missing something here? I pick and choose my battles.

Yes, the tradition of the Novato Classic has now been destroyed for absolutely no reason whatsoever. That tournament had a very rich and prestigious history.

drama much? It's a summer basketball tournament ffs...I'll bet you 90% of the kids that have played in that tourney think it's just another summer tourney...

I'm all for trying to make sure that doesn't happen due to the name change. I'd love to touch base about the history and such to help pass it forward. It matters. Your comment came with no background so I was unaware of your concern. I'm open to having those discussions with those paying the bills as well.

Or we can simply make this a totally different entity altogether and remember the Novato Classic for it was. Coach Ratshin and I are trying to create the best possible summer tourney we can.

If you take the time to think it out, attaching the name to the county of marin, which is more known than the city of novato, can give the tournament a greater reach. That greater reach can help the tournament serve more kids.

implying its a "marin" tournament makes it exclusive to kids from marin only. That area is already known for being a very exclusionary area.

I just find it interesting that you advocate for eliminating a group of kids from their own in season tournament thats been going on for what will be its 69th year, while simultaneously whinging about the name change of a summer exhibition tournament.
