Northridge women opt out

According to multiple media reports, the players on the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team have decided to opt out of the upcoming 2020-21 season due to virus worries. Northridge is one of 11 schools in the Big West Conference. The league's website no longer includes the Northridge women on its composite schedule.

I wonder why they chose this route and if there are consequences from the league for doing so.

I expect more players to opt out but a whole program is surprising.

Is D2 officially cancelled too?

Unsure about Division II schools in California. That's a different enchilada. Trying to find the CCAA 2020-21 composite schedule.

I was just saying this thought to someone last week. At some point, the issues of playing through this outweigh positives of playing for some programs including high school

Too true. If you weren't enjoying your college hoops experience in the first place and then a pandemic comes along to make things even less attractive, why not simply shut the program down and walk away for a year? Or two.
