Reliable source says Edwards is out as OR boys coach. I think it was a pretty mutual departure. You have a school that excels in virtually every sport.... Football, Baseball, Womens Hoops, Soccer, etc, etc. The mens hoop program has just been mediocre. Not acceptable with that sort of enrollment and talent walking the halls. Hopefully they find somebody good.

Little tuff when your best player Tyus Millholin leaves for Utah. He by the way led his team to a State championship in UTAH averaging 22 points 7 assists and 5 steals per game. I think he would have made a difference

Very difficult place to coach boys basketball for a few different reasons. I can almost guarantee another underwhelming choice as head coach.

You could say its tough to coach at any school. Parents are brutal these days. Probably the biggest pain in the ass a coach has to deal with. Too connected. Email/Text/Social Media. I fee for them. I don't think my parents even knew more than my coaches first and last name. The coaches with some proven history can call the shots. Don't like me hit the road I don't care. Our program will still win. Unfortunately starting fresh at OR is going to be tough for anybody. But this is a school with money, athletes, and facilities. Figure it out.

The parents have always been an issue there but the real problem is the AD... He has basically gone out of his way to make sure the boys program is in chaos for obvious reasons.

That is too bad 27-0. I don't know all of those details. But I guess it doesn't take much to figure out steve white is the women's coach and AD. So I'm thinking the girls get the practice slot from 3-5? Ha ha. But in all sincerity isn't the success /Failure of the mens program a reflection on the AD?

You would think so but with the habitual poor decision making on hires there makes you wonder. He is either someone who is clueless or is purposely trying to keep his program in the limelight.

I though Bobby did a great job with what he had. Tyus transfered, and Compton had some mystery illness that sidelined him forever. They were not good enough to beat Oakridge or Folsom. He had the kids playing hard and competing. He really liked that gig.

I heard he resigned. Did not hear it was mutual.

His teams the last two years were really not that talented compared to the rest of the league. Other than the point guard Matt Battaglia, they did not have any college level talent. Many other teams in the Delta had multiple college kids. In my opinion the reason they did not win the last couple of years is based largely on lack of talent on the team, not the coach, AD, parents etc. I am sure there were plenty of issues. There always are these days in most programs, even the most successful ones. However, the lack of winning is directly connected to the lack of talent. A new coach is not likely to turn them into a conference champ either, as I do not think they will be super talented next year either.

Laidback Coach, Oakridge has been in the SFL for the past 2 years and they have been competitive in a very tough league. Oakridge, Del Oro, Granite Bay and NU all beat each other this year and Rocklin beat NU, Del Oro and lost to Woodcreek in (OT). NU beat Woodcreek and Woodcreek beat Folsom. The only teams that Oakridge has not been able to beat in league are Woodcreek and Folsom.
1st round of SFL League 2016
Lost-Folsom 58-37
Beat-NU 56-55 (OT)
Beat-Rocklin 73-47
Lost-Woodcreek 63-40
Lost-Del Oro 64-52
Lost-Granite Bay 61-60

2nd round of SFL League 2016
Lost-Folsom 89-47
Lost-NU 45-41
Beat Rocklin 59-56
Lost-Woodcreek 71-68 (OT)
Beat Del Oro 60-58
Beat-Granite Bay 68-60

They have been in the play-offs for the past 2 years and this year they beat Lodi 68-59, then lost to Modesto Christian 55-47. Their JV team finished in the top 3 in league this year so there is some good young talent coming up. Losing Tyus this year certainly did not help because he could be a game changer, but they still had plenty of talent on the team. I am not an Oakridge parent, no dog in the fight,my boys go to NU, and we have played with and against most of the Oakridge players since they were all in 6th grade. It is a high-end community with high expectations and it will take a very strong coach to come in and turn them into the championship caliber team they have the potential to be.

KP, my post should have been clearer. I believe they did very well with what they had and their coach should be commended for the wins and near wins he was able to bring to the program. The zone he ran caused some folks some major problems.

I generally agree with everything you said, except the statement that they had plenty of talent on their team. I disagree, at least when compared to most of the SFL and the other DI teams that the EDH community thinks that ORHS should compete with (Meaning Sheldon and Jesuit). Jesuit, Sheldon, Folsom and Woodcreek were way more talented than ORHS the last two years. I believe that Nevada Union and Granite Bay were also more talented than Oak Ridge during the same period. My point is that you cannot blame the ORHS coach for the fact that ORHS did not contend for a section championship and did not win more games. Look at some of these facts, for example . . .
1. They played in the toughest league in the section.
2. As you point out, they won many games against very good teams.
3. They almost beat Woodcreek and played Modesto Christian very close in playoffs this past February.
4. They are not nearly as talented as the other top teams in their league or in the section.

It is also important to understand that Oak Ridge is impacted, which usually makes it harder for kids to transfer in to the school.

To make their coach the scapegoat for their failure to have the same success as they do in girls basketball, football, baseball, lacrosse etc. is wrong IMHO. If anything he should get some credit for what he has done there the last two years with one legit college player on his roster.

As far as the years to come, I do not know much about their young talent coming in, but losing Battaglia is a big loss. Compton and Jared Casey were their best inside players and both graduated as well. Woodcreek will be very strong and Folsom has some young talent returning as well (although they lost a lot of really good seniors), so the SFL will remain a challenge for whoever takes over for ORHS.

Laidback coach I agree with you. You that team was not as talented as the Trojan parents think. Also have to remember woodcreek beat them in the St hope elite classic. Compton didn't play the whole tournament. Good luck to the next guy that takes that job.

Laidback coach thank you for clarifying. What you say makes a lot of sense. As a parent I know it is really easy to blame the coach but the bottom line is no high school coach is coaching for the money and my experience has been that most of the coaches truly care about the kids and try and do their best by them. It is unfortunate that parents can't teach their athletes simply to do their best and understand that things don't always work out the way they want it to.

Coach did a nice job at Oak Ridge. They lost too many guys to transfers. They played the elite teams very well but couldn't get over the hump. Some decent young talent and should compete next year.

It will be interesting who applies. It is a commute unless you live in town.
