The Carondelet frosh game was cancelled yesterday because the East Bay Officials' Association couldn't staff the game.

This is only going to get worse, and administrators, coaches and concerned fans need to work to cut down unwarranted abuse (which would be almost any) from fans who have no idea what they're seeing except that their precious progeny aren't as good as they hoped. So it must be the refs' fault.

This is the biggest issue around prep sports. The gap between the haves and have nots isn't great. Participation numbers need to be looked at. But if you don't have refs, you don't have games.

Spectator verbal abuse just keeps on trending up because we just live in an age where you just say whatever you want because its your 1st amendment right... no matter if its offensive, abusive, etc. You cannot pay part time referees enough to take that. We might as well just let the players call their own fouls.
