Pac-12 coaches talk recruiting

Just look at the Cal roster ... it's 75% from Southern California ... and they end up getting USC and UCLA rejects ... oh and by the way, USC and UCLA get our best recruits! Sad state of affairs for the Bears ...

Whenever coaches from out of state ask me why Cal has been left in the dust in the PAC, this is what I tell them is the source of the problem. They lose the local kids to So Cal, which is understandable. It's a long standing tradition that kids from up here go down there for college and vice versa. But, they don't have enough clout to pull quality kids up from the south to replace the quality kids they lose. Besides, any kid who is truly a difference maker also gets recruited heavily by Oregon, Washington, and Boise. If I'm a football player today, would I rather play for Oregon's explosive offense and fancy new football complex, UCLA's dynamic NFL experienced staff in their newly built stadium, USC's tradition filled program, or at Cal? Easy decision.

Couldn't agree more on the Cal situation. Cal whiffed badly on local top-notch recruits this past year - Samia, Longson, Myers and Aeilo. Part of the problem, at least as the OL recruiting went, was Yenser (former OL coach) and Tony Franklin, the OC. Yenser just never seemed comfortable at Berkeley while Franklin seems to drag his feet on the recruiting front.

The other issue seems to be that CAL wants to recruit on a national level like Stanford but CAL has no where near the "pull" that Stanford has and maintains with recruits outside of CA.

To make matters worse, Cal offered Noah Myers late in the recruiting cycle and BOTH HIS PARENTS ARE CAL GRADS! If Cal had gotten on board with him early, before he committed to Wazzu, Cal probably lands him. To their credit, they did land an outstanding offensive lineman from Hawaii in Semisi Ualave(sic)
