Can anyone provide information on Palma hoops? Are they better or as good as fellow D4, SHP? Both teams have played St. Francis and Mitty with Riordan splitting their the home half of the series. Palma lost to St. Francis @ home and lost to Mitty on a neutral site last Sat.
Unlike football, where consolation games are meaningless and potentially dangerous to the players' health, the Open consolation round in hoops serves as warmups for NorCals. At this time of the year, I'm sure the teams would rather play one another than against their team mates at practice.

I see the "benefit" of playing the consolation games because it could be at least 2 weeks before the next game if youre a team that lost in the round. Players may get stale.

I thought last year the 3rd place game between SH/Riordan had no point. The only thing that would be newsworthy to come out of that game would be an injury to a regular rotation player. I dont know how these coaches would handle the consolations but I would play my starters one quarter, and play the rest of the game with the seniors that never get to play or the players they brought up from JV/Frosh.

Good point! Coach Buck should "evaluate" some of his bench players to see if anyone can shoot the 3.

Tough to say. The game of basketball seems to be one of match ups and how well a team is playing a particular game. Serra destroys HMB and Palma plays Mitty relatively close, and Palma and HMB difference is 3 points. Early season Palma game against St Francis was relatively close. I think Palma and Sacred Heart Prep would be relatively close. Maybe SHP a tad better, but Palma also plays good defense so SHP would have to play a good game and have their shooters on.

As far as Palma versus Riordan. I think Palma will play a full game as they are a young team and need experience against good teams like Riordan. Should be a good game. It seems the teams played hard the first consolidation game so no reason not to play hard this round.

NorCal, thanks for the info. Your posts are always insightful re Palma and the other schools south of Gilroy. Will you be making the trek to the Crusader Forum? Should be a good game.

Playing the seniors that dont even play during the season works also for the consolation for the CCS football playoffs. From a guy who was a benchwarmer during my HS playing days, nothing would be more awesome than actually playing instead of having my arms folded on the sidelines. CCS cant complain about teams forfeiting because of fear of injury.

Not sure if this game has Norcal tourney seedings. It may? That could also impact how hard they play.

I wish I could make it to the Riordan game. Unfortunately, traveling with work.
