And this:

The camp fire.
It is being called the worst fire in Calif. history. 6,500 to 7,000 thousand homes burned.
Today an 12 Noon it was Dark, I am talking night time.
All Butte county schools closed for at least the next week.
Yes, it puts all things in perspective, doesn't it.

Here's wishing you hugs to your family

Man this is just shitty! Communities destroyed and devastated. Thoughts and prayers to those affected.

It is being said that part of the high school is gone but the lower level schools are a loss. They are going to use this upcoming week to figure out how to place all of the Paradise kids at all levels into various schools throughout Butte County and beyond. I belong to a foundation that cooks and feeds the people that are affected by these tragedies. I can tell you that The town of Paradise is pretty much burnt to the ground. The fire station, police station, city hall, shopping plazas, restaurants, everything! Gone! Not to diminish other areas from the past but this whole town is gone. Lots of fatalities and not hundreds but thousands of homes totally lost. It is an absolute horrific disaster. Pray for the people of Paradise. Their lives may never ever be the same. One of the winningest programs in North Section history may never be the same again.

Thoughts and prayers to all affected by fires throughout our State.

I attended a game at Paradise back in 2014 while my son was attending Chico State. The only time I've been there. Had a great experience. In light of recent events, I'm so glad I did that. While they'll surely rebuild and move on, it'll likely never be the same.

It's been a strange couple of days. Not only have the fires hit in an area my son knows all too well since he attended college nearby, he's been living in Simi Valley the past 18 months. The shooting that occurred the other day was at a bar he and his GF frequent. Luckily my son and his GF are traveling throughout Europe, but they've been keeping up on all this news back home. His GF's family has been evacuated from their home in Simi -- which is close to Malibu.

I've heard from a few friends that have been affected by both fires. I'm sure some of you guys are experiencing the same. Rough couple days, for sure.

I go down to Newbury Park, every couple of years to visit my oldest friend in the world. We have known each other for 65 years. Met when we were 5 yrs old. His son also went to Chico state. I go dancing at the Boarderline (That Bar) when I am down there. How odd.

Here's wishing the best for everyone

Red Bluff staff has their priorities figured out. Sad situation for the Paradise community.

It was a great gesture to be sure. But the Paradise coaches and community have way more to think about this week than trying to prepare for another football game. Our prayers are with them as they move forward through this difficult time in their lives.

Not football, but since my daughter is in volleyball, I keep up with it. Paradise Adventist made it to the Norcal DVI playoffs semis against Forest Lake Christian. They, like everyone else in Paradise, lost everything. Rather than forfeit, the team decided to play tonight at Forest Lake Christian. Sacramento volleyball community has stepped up by making them uniforms and providing them equipment. CIF has waived entrance fees to the game and asking for gift card donations instead as I understand it. Game is at 6:00 at Forest Lake Christian in Auburn. If you are in the area, stop by, bring a gift card, watch some volleyball, and give them your support. Prayers to all impacted by this tragedy.

Love this!

Very sad, so many in need and too many lost in the fire. Prayers to all affected and especially to those that lost loved ones.

Here’s my story that started Thursday morning. My 96year old father lives in Magalia and my sons brother in laws family lives in Paradise. I was in Oregon on biz trip when I received a text from my daughter in law that a fire had started near Paradise and her brother is evacuating. At this point Paradise was under evac orders but Magalia was on red flag alert. My sister contacted my dad at 11:00am Thursday and Requested he get out now but he refused to leave until evac was ordered as issued on local TV channel . I called few min later to get on him to leave but was not able to get through because as it turns out PGE shut down power so his AC powered land line phone did not work. He does not have a cell phone. Here I am in Oregon and unable to contact him nor able to drive there to get him. I’m assuming at this point that he evac’d and I would be talking to him when I landed in Sac on flight from Oregon. During flight looking out air plane window I could clearly see this massive fire with occasional explosions(propane tanks) and the whole sky was glowing red. Arriving at sac I tried to call again but no answer and no Vmail from him. Family had started a large text thread while I was in flight and found my sons brother in law and family was safe and just made it out with flames licking their bumper, thank God! No word from dad and we all thought at this point that we would hear from him from an evac center in the morning so sleepless night for all. Friday morning I texted a Paradise deputy as I had his personal cell number from prior emergency relating to my dad, no response so I called 5x times and on 5th call he answered and immediately said I don’t know who is calling but it is a miracle you caught me. He knew who I was after quick intro and asked if he could check out my Dads home but he said that orders prevented him from going until next day. By this time we are all worried sick. My brother from Arizona on his way at this point and he headed directly to Chico after arrival in Sac. We mapped out a search plan to look at all the evac centers for my dad and calls the whole family made to evac centers turned up no dad. After my brother checked out the first evac then was in way to second evac place he got a call from my Dad! He used a fellow evac persons cell to call him. Found and alive, Praise the Lord!

Lot more to this story but I’ll conclude with my dads account of how he got to Yuba fairgrounds in Gridley. He stayed at his house over night Thursday and woke up seeing flames at the back of his house so he ran to his garage to get in his truck to high tail it but garage door did not open no electricity. He was not able to manually lift the door so he ran out into street for help and saw a fire truck barreling down towards him. They stopped and my dad asked for help with garage door but they said no time and loaded him in the truck and got out of there. He then took bus to Gridley. He literally made it out with only his clothes he was wearing and did not even have his wallet.

We are thankful and many others are their loved ones made it out. Again prayers to all!

Friday’s DO game was first playoff game I missed in 19years.

Sorry for long post but thought I’d share my account of Fire as it had a good ending and we need to hear about good endings.

God Bless all

Incredible Rick, and thank God your family members got out safely! I saw a FB post yesterday admonishing people who don’t evacuate in time with these fires, and I don’t think anyone who hasn’t experienced it can appreciate how quickly the fire can outrun any warning system, or even your vehicle!

Just devastating for so many. I wish your family well!

Hey everyone, I'm the band teacher at Paradise. Just want to thank everyone for their thoughts. West Valley football wore the Paradise "P" on their helmets for their playoff game, and Gridley wrapped their goalposts with Paradise markings. Much respect. Crazy day.
Paradise Band Director, we're all praying the fire didn't affect you too bad. Stay strong and prayed up my friend. This unfortunate situation shall pass second by second, minute by minute and day by day. And with every living day that passes it will bring normality and wholeness to all those affected by this tragedy. Once again, stay strong and prayed up for there is nothing that God can't do. Please keep us posted on the events taking place to make a better Paradise moving forward. Best regards, FJ101

Sir I probably spoke to your dad either on Friday or Saturday. I am part of the 4G foundation that was in charge of tri tip dinners for all evacuees and vonteers both Days at the Gridley fairgrounds. Part of my responsibility is to walk around and talk, console, pray, offer my cell phone or whatever was needed at that time. I met and spoke to many in fact most of the older, dazed and confused gentlemen. It’s amazing as to just how small this world is. My prayer is that he is doing better now that the shock is wearing off and I am so thankful that you all found your dad. Gridley was and is still full of a lot of elderly people in the same boat that your dad was in! I can assure you that there were lots of great people taking care of your dad while he was stuck in limbo. God Bless you sir and God Bless all these poor souls that literally lost everything.

@farmair3 thank you! What you were/are doing is what these folks really need, to know that some one cares, a kind word, a blanket, consolation, a prayer. My Dad is doing well other than bouts of emotions as can be expected but I’d hate to think about his state being left alone as a 96year old without genuine care from folks like you. What you all do makes a difference! Again THANK YOU and God bless you!

Btw I’ve read a lot of your posts over the years and like what you post!

Hi Glidstep, Hope you and your family are doing OK.
Do you by any chance, play in the Paradise big Band that comes down to Chico?

Here's wishing you great sounds

Hey farmair3, let me know if you get the chance to come to the Gridley Invitational this year.
I will put you on the guest list.

Here's giving thanks for your service

This is a heartfelt thread, kudo's to Streak. Rick, 'so glad your Dad is safe. Amazing people up in Butte County + down in Socal putting their lives on the line, citizens helping the elderly, survivors, singed pets, livestock and wildlife. I watched some very scary evac videos and a very sad one too; horrible fire. I am in the natural disaster biz; it's a crazy time w/mother nature and global warming; I have missed more D.O. games in the past 4 yrs with work than since moving to Loomis in '99. God bless all the 1st responders, and I pray the winds die down fast.

I remember playing semi-pro football and making the trip up to Paradise to play their Semi-Pro team which was probably 95% Paradise alums. My prayers are with those affected by this tragedy. This is heart breaking.

Having gone through this last year my work put on a disaster relief effort, which we still maintain a warehouse of supplies for and are working with Butte County right now.

I just got this message from our coordinator. If anyone is planning on donating this is what we learned last year. Just an FYI.

I just wanted to give you a heads up on a couple of things that I learned from the fires here while coordinating the relief efforts.

The most important thing people need early on in the fires is the basic stuff like toothbrushes, soap, toiletries, basic clothing, and cash.

If you can steer your donors to getting Visa cash cards or other cash type donations they will go farther than specific store card donations.

No. I'm pretty busy conducting the high school, intermediate School and community band . Unfortunately my house was lost, but we got the pets and family, and we have a place to stay. I know others who aren't as lucky.
