He was a familiar figure on basketball courts throughout the Peninsula for several decades. Pat Boland, a referee who had earned the respect of prep players and coaches alike, died earlier this week due to complications from a variety of serious medical issues. Some years ago, he collapsed during a game in Atherton, suffered cardiac arrest and nearly died right there on the court. He was revived by doctors who were attending the game. But he had suffered major cardiac damage. Other problems manifested themselves later. Finally, at the age of 63, he could hold out no longer. Funeral services will be held in the spring of 2022.
