Week 6
So up until last night I was prepared to give an in-depth discussion about the Gabilan title already being won by Salinas and how this weeks MVC vs Monterey game will decide the Mission. But then Gilroy happened.
There are other threads on this, so I won’t get into too much. But what an awful development. Nobody wins in this. Coming off the Garlic festival tragedy, Friday nights were supposed to be part of the healing process. Now, for Gilroy High, it has turned into its own tragedy. My thoughts go out to the victim of what sounds like a heinous assault brought on by his own teammates. Truly sad.
First week of league was not good for my picks: 8-5 last week. (59-23 for the season). 12 Games this week. With some very good match ups.
Fri 10/04 Gonzales (CA) at King City (CA), 7:30pm- Battle for the Megaphone 80+ years for this rivalry. KC let me down last week vs Santa Cruz, Gonzales has looked pretty solid this year. Gonzo -24-14
Fri 10/04 Soquel (CA) at North Monterey County (Castroville, CA), 7:30pm- This is good matchup. NMC is way improved and Soquel is the biggest surprise of the year down here. Taking Soquel 21-20
Sat 10/05 Santa Cruz (CA) at San Lorenzo Valley (Felton, CA), 2:00pm – another good match up between old SCCAl teams. I am jumping onto the Santa Cruz bandwagon, they looked good vs KC. Santa Cruz 28-14
Fri 10/04 Scotts Valley (CA) at Alisal (Salinas, CA), 7:30pm- I was expecting a little more from Alisal this year. These team both like to run, this game could be done by 8:30. Alisal 21-14
Fri 10/04 Monte Vista Christian (Watsonville, CA) at Monterey (CA), 7:30pm- Maybe the best game of the night locally. Winner will have an inside path to the Mission Championship (no offense to Seaside). With Monterey’s QB1 out I think MVC will take it. MVC 27-24
Fri 10/04 North Salinas (Salinas, CA) at Seaside (CA), 7:30pm- Seaside has to play who is in front of them and sometime programs are just off for a year. But Seaside opponents are a combined 0-23. Not quite sure how good they are. They are better than NS. Seaside wins 28-12
Fri 10/04 Salinas (CA) at Alvarez (Salinas, CA), 7:30pm- Can Salinas avoid a hangover from their victory over Palma? If they are not Carful Alverez can sneak up on them. Salinas 24-16
Fri 10/04 Christopher (Gilroy, CA) at San Benito (Hollister, CA), 7:30pm – huge win for Hollister v Aptos last wek. Christopher has only 1 athlete, stop him and Balers should roll. Hollister 28-7
Sat 10/05 Aptos (CA) at Carmel (CA), 2:00pm- I don’t think anyone can consistently stop Carmel’s offense, but their defense can’t stop anybody. Aptos get’s 1 more stop. Aptos 56-51 (Bet the over)
Fri 10/04 Pacific Grove (CA) at Harbor (Santa Cruz, CA), 7:30pm- I am getting off the Harbor bandwagon. I hate picking PG to win☹. PG 35-7
Fri 10/04 St. Francis (Watsonville, CA) vs Pajaro Valley (Watsonville, CA) at Watsonville (CA), 7:30pm- Poor St. Francis just does not have the “horses’ to go the distance as they gave up 21 to PG to end last weeks game. But PV is not that good. St. Francis 28-7
Fri 10/04 Stevenson (Pebble Beach, CA) at Greenfield (CA), 7:30pm- Best for last. RLS continues it quest for that elusive 2nd football league title. Greenfield is improving but not quite enough. RLS 35-4
