I personally don't think anyone on Carondelet can make excuses for how they played vs Pinewood.Have to give some credit to Pinewood. Perhaps Carondelet sees a few things they can work to improve upon. But there were a few very interesting developments before and during the game. And girls I think on all teams have been feeling at times under the weather. Not sure if or how much those things were factors. Because Pinewood was clearly the better team on that evening.
And Pinewood proved my point on the significance of working to improve upon your weaknesses. And the fact size can be neutralized with the right game plan and preparation. And the importance of looking for the best shot possible before the most points individually.
That unselfish culture and the success it brings couldn't have been displayed better than Pinewood displayed it last night. And it showed the importance of trusting, developing, and encouraging more confident options across the board. There may be a bit of growing pains while you patiently go through the up and down process it takes to build trust and confidence in creating more options. But that is what the offseason, pre and regular season is there for. To prepare your team for the challenge of the post season. Rather than just riding 1 or 2 options which as we witnessed can be easily contained by the better teams, especially come post season when pressure is increased. And better game plans implemented.
Players can get into foul troubles (especially with questionable calls). [Players can get tired. Players can have an off night. And players can get sick or be injured. So the team has to be prepared for nights they are challenged more for whatever reason. Two good teams.
Pinewood was the better team on the floor last night.
Congratulations to Pinewood !
Could this be the year Pinewood beats Mitty in CCS final? The last two years it’s been those two teams. Does Doc have game plan ready to challenge Sue?
C-Let guard (#11) hand checked more than anyone. And dislodging works both ways. If your big is going to go down and root out position you have to allow the defender to do the same.Heard the game started over an hour late because of no officials? That is advantage Pinewood and probably should have been a forfeit. Clet had to come a long way to sit there for an hour and wait for referees. Also heard that if they have referees that call hand checking, pushing and dislodging that Pinewood would have been in some foul trouble. Can't wait for the potential Mitty v Pinewood matchup in a CCS open final. Don't sleep on a few other WCAL teams that might give Pinewood a run for their money if they are having an off night. SHC looked pretty good vs Mitty last night.

It is entirely possible that Pinewood is simply the better team, period.
I ask players this question: What's a foul?
I get answers about rules, contact, etc., but the answer is simple: When the ref blows the whistle.
If the refs aren't calling hand-checking, you have to adjust on both ends -- if you're defending, use your hands; if you have the ball, use strength.
If the refs are calling hand-checking, defend with your feet, and with the ball, look to turn the corner and attack.
If a team cannot adjust to different styles of officiating, it will not realize its potential. Blaming the refs, especially high school refs, is a way to avoid blaming yourself -- whatever they're calling, players and coaches have to adjust. After all, the refs won't, so you can either whine or figure out how to win anyway.
