Ok so could someone please explain to me how SPSV isn’t in the Open division? 19-1 with the only loss being to the #2 team in Arizona. Champs of the TCAL rock, defending ncs D3 champs. They’ve been a solid program for years and finally broke thru and knocked off Salesian only to get hosed by the NCS folks. So you’re telling me a 5th place team in the EBAL is better than the 1st place team in the TCAL? I didn’t watch tooooo too much high school hoops but if 925 is that dominating compared to other parts of the section then I really need to start checking out more tri valley games. I understand their schedule was pretty soft and this worst Salesians record has been in a long long time. I get that. But to split the 6 automatic NorCal berths between 2 leagues is pretty lame.

i still dont get the issue. why would they want to be a low seed in the open instead of a high seed in their division? a ring is a ring

All Open teams qualify for NorCals and there is no guarantee that the Bruins are gonna win D3. Any and everyone’s fortunes can change with an injury to the wrong player. IJS

They’ve had a great season no doubt. Maybe history has something to do with it? I don’t think st pats has ever been open team.
In any event d3 will be no easy task. They will mostly likely have to get thru a very big Archie Williams. Team in semis and an excellent Branson one in finals. The MCAL was a good league this year.

oh ok. i didnt realize that. but really even if they get to semi in d3, how many good teams are there up north anyway? they have to take someone. but i get it now

Committee must not have liked their strength of schedule. Having a few games canceled didn't help. Neither did drawing Brophy Prep in the first round of the Father Barry Classic.

You know I think they didn't find another team, like Dougherty Valley and SRVH both could have been given the 8 seed then SPSV the 7 seed.

SPSV has won 2 games, so they are assured a spot in CIF now. The Archie Williams game will be a good one. AW's height I think gets to SPSV, but it'll be a great game to watch for those in attendance!

MC beat AW without too much height 2 times this year and SPSV is way more athletic then either of those 2 teams…….I think SPSV defense swarms AW all night and chokes them out in the second half no problem

I could be wrong but i believe when the NCS
created the open division format it changed the rule that you now have to reach the final game to be assured of a spot in norcal. it is
No longer just win 2 games to qualify if i am
Wrong please correct me.

you are correct.

D1,2 and 3 now must make it to the finals to qualify for Norcals. All 6 in the OPEN automatically qualify, that was the trade off. And since no D4 teams or below are allowed to be in the NCS Open they get 4 qualifiers still.

I believe NCS only takes 6 into the Open for both the boys and girls. Here is the sample bracket listed on the NCS site, and it only lists 6.
