Incoming freshman from the Stockton area. Is rumored to be transferring to Orem HS in Utah, but has drawn a lot of hype early.

Saw Orem last year. Got to see them while on the field and up close. The biggest group of lineman I've seen ever for a high school team. There might be a school or two that comes close but not many. He will have holes to run through.

Can't blame him for going out there then but still wish a school like Lincoln could get a kid like that then they might stand a chance against St Mary's this decade

Seriously? Hyping incoming frosh?
Good lord. Can you say Findlay Prep...

I don't really know anything about recruiting but if the kid is 14 and rivals has 5 stars next to his name he's probably going to be good lol

Has he yet to been deemed 5 stars? Very few get five stars...........

I don't know I'm just going by the picture in the OP but regardless he's going to be good there's nothing wrong with acknowledging a kid has potential to be great

They haven't ranked that class yet. The stars are lit up once they are.

I don't think it is hyping up a kid. Just saying he has shown well at different events.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not downgrading the kid. As much as I despise the star rating system, five star recruits are scrutinized by so many experts that they are rarely wrong. The ratings of 2, 3 and 4 star recruits is where eyes of the beholder occurs the most.

Gone are the days where a kid can just be a kid and focus on their grades and football. It seems now a days every talented kid has some trainer or family member trying to latch on to them... and recruiting non sense filling their head up with hype. Too many adults ruining a simple kids' game. Every talented middle school student in the state has adults in his ear about where he should be going to high school and where he should be working out.

Spot on EBDad. Introducing a social media presence via dialogue by whomever (kids now even glorifying themselves at this age) has potential upside as mentioned. On the other hand, one of the most intriguing documentaries , and realistically unfortunate, I’ve come across is ‘Hoop Dreams.’ A cautionary tale if there ever was one, and that was 1994. I paid attention as Agee went on to AState, Pops alma mater. In a small sample size here in the EB that has been the overwhelmingly common thread. Boom (HS), Boom/bust(college) , Bust (pro.) When families have invested everything in that, it’s a HUGE risk. Even Enterprise Rent-a-car’s national ads BOAST how many NCAA athletes they employ. Not knocking employment; young adults/grads absolutely need that until their compass points definitively. How many 50 year olds are handing you the tablet to initial the loss waiver decline?

I have an honest question, I am in no way trying to take away from the kid or any others. In my opinion from what I saw he is mentally ahead of the curve, he is playing chess while others checkers, props to him because that takes work and you can tell he is committed to the game! I wonder tho, does a very high level mental ability possibly make the athletic ability seam to be greater than it is? I am truelly curious and don't mean to diminish or take away from this young man at all! I am curious because it's just an observation I have made watching football all over at different pre varsity levels for some time now.

Anyone know what the backstory is here? Orem is a solid program but there are programs like St. Mary’s that are in STOCKTON and just as good or programs like Folsom, DLS, that are a short drive away. What motivates a family to move 12 hours away to play for a school like Orem? I don’t personally agree with kids moving to play for IMG and Bishop Gorman, but I understand it. I don’t get this.

Maybe the family is moving to Utah for work?

On rivals it shows BYU has offered a scholarship so maybe he wants to be closer to there

Well, I personally think that this is a choice. If the kids is meant to play at the next level, he will be found and his high school coaches will help. The kids could choose to have faith in that and get on the books. There are so many supposed stars of 7 on 7 tournaments that will not be playing at the next level because they are truly crappy students. Running off to this "show off" event and that "show off" event with the obligatory tweet from the 7 on 7 coach that "Johnny is the greatest thing to come along in years" ..... well, that is sure missing the boat in my opinion. Kids can choose to be football players and students and not use up every free moment with self-promotion. Personally, I don't think the self promotion does a bit of good if the apple is rotten at its core. YOUR WEAKNESSES WILL BE FOUND.

I don’t think the family is Mormon. If it’s purely football related, what’s the rationale?

Think, or know?

Think, but I'd be willing to bet he's not. Is the assumption when potential 5 star athletes transfer to parochial schools its because they want to get in touch with their Catholic roots? Funny nobody mentioned religion on the thread about Evan Bennett transferring to MD. I think its a safe assumption that this is not a religious decision.

Agreed. I heard he was transferring to a school in Utah(not sure which one). Either way the kid can play ball and will be a player to watch on Saturday’s and maybe Sunday’s

He played for South Stockton Vikings, the feeder program for Edison. Lincoln's feeder program is the Northwest Trojans. More than likely, if he stayed in Stockton, he would be playing for St. Mary's, if not Edison. My sons, too, played for the South Stockton Vikings along with a couple of other of their teammates. Remember, St. Mary's has no boundaries. But, we weren't drawn to St. Mary's for football, like many might think. Looks like Lincoln might have to wait another decade. LOL.

Oh ok I see I wasnt sure where he played and well I can understand people liking St Mary's not just for football but Id like to see some local competition for St. Mary's or kids staying local but I'm not judging I completely understand trying to take the best opportunities available both for sport and education. I do hope Lincoln can get an upset sooner rather than later lol I know Lincoln has a hell of a schedule this year

Anyone still think he was overhyped as a incoming frosh? 1 Year later he has basically been offered by every school in the COUNTRY. BAMA, USC, OKLAHOMA included. Edison doing big things the next few years. Happy for the kid to stay home.

Believe it or not there was a team in the North Section about 15-20 years ago, Lassen High School.
Their line averaged about 265 pounds. I beleive they were children of the prision guards. I remembered there being a couple of 300 pounders, and the smallest kid around 240 pounds.
They had a 6'5' Quarterback. This team destroyed every team in the section. They would have won state if it was happening back then. This was an Outlier if there ever was one.

Here's wishing you great football.
