No one is saying that ranking girls' prep basketball teams is anything close to a science. It's not. There are nuances. But the SF Chronicle does seem to be struggling early in the season. Here's an example: St. Ignatius lost to Menlo School on a neutral floor; SI actually moved up from No.13 to No.11 this week. Menlo School, which is unbeaten at this point, is ranked significantly below at No.20. Call me crazy, but something just seems a bit off here. Please provide some perspective.

I think people (done it myself too) can fall in love with preseason rankings or what a team will look like in February and March. Usually rankings are a week to week thing, so there should be fluctuation to honor these results even for just one week

Agree. Menlo School is a member of the WBAL's upper division. You can make an argument that, top to bottom, the WBAL is very, very close to the WCAL. Probably a tick or two below. But close. It's probably the second-strongest girls' hoops league in NorCal. But few seem to notice. Just a thought.

Good point on that. WCAL is still the premier league, but doesn't mean everything else in the section is down. WBAL upper division is a good league.

Ranking team is good as long as no team gets a pass on a lost to a lower level team. I seen this happen to much to Often. Everybody has favorites but just dont make it to so Obvious!!!!
