Only two picks went bad and the first one was Deer Valley knocking off Concord 34-12, Deer Valley so far has stopped Granada 20-7 but lost to Campolindo 42-29, but they scored 29 points on the Cougars and we blasted 36-0 by Pittman... Concord seemed to be on the right track with wins over Benicia, San Lorenzo and Oakland but SL and Oakland are no yard sticks and Deer valley made a statement by beating Granada 20-7.
The other pick that went bad was Liberty dropping a 33-28 loss to San Leandro....Now San Leandro at 0-4 does not tell the whole story...the Pirates at 0-4 are still one of the toughest teams in the area and stopped a struggling Liberty Lion team 33-28. The next question is what is going on with the Lions.
They started the season with a 30-7 win over Central of Fresno but in the next game against Chico, they had a big lead and lost it and went down 41-34...Against California, at the half it was 1717, but this time they could net follow up in the second half and lost 42-24, scoring only one TD.. Liberty gets a bye this week, so they can regroup and get ready for League play.
In the EBAL, there were no surprises except Livermore scored 17 on Monte Vista although MV won 48-17, now Monte Vista has a big task for next Friday when they travel to clayton valley charter
In the DFAL.....Campolindo got by Dublin 14-10 in a battle that the Gaels were well prepared for....although Dublin did not get on the score board with a TD play. They did take the lead with a 75 yard fumble recovery and held the Cougars to 14 points, taking a few pages from Napa and came close to pulling off a victory...
And what about Dougherty Valley winning their first league game against Las Lomas at 21-14, DV now at 5-0 has to prepare for Cammpolindo and there is a good chance the wildcats may give the Cougars another battle like Dublin pulled off.
Over at Alhambra, Miramonte took off to a 14-0 lead and although the Bulldogs came close in the second quarter and the third quarter, the combination of Tague, Stehr, Anderson and Lindberg were just too much as they racked up 21 first downs in route to a 42-19 win.
BUT at the BVAL, all hell broke loose as Antioch shut out Pinole valley 52-0, we expected Pinole Valley to give the Panthers a fight, but Antioch put up a strong defense...In Pittsburg, the Pirates turned back the Vacaville Bulldogs 34-24 and Freedom went down to W.C.Wood 55-31 in three wild scoring games.....
