Will Pinewood pull off another upset this year? Both teams semifinal games were blowouts and both seem to be clicking on all cylinders right now. It should make for a great game.

It will be a good game. I assume better than last year, but I could also see it going similarly due to matchups and style of play. If PW doesn't shoot the lights out, which they are obviously capable of doing, it could be another long night.

This could be a good test for Mitty before Open playoffs. They might even face each other again there. Of course that game would be at Mitty though. This will be interesting playing on a full size court at Santa Clara, that could possibly help Pinewood in stretching out Mitty's press.

Interesting, I was thinking the court size would favor Mitty who loves to get out and run in transition, and is very well conditioned to play uptempo for an entire game. I don't think the press will be for forcing TO's as much as it will be about speeding up the game and making PW use as much of their legs to run instead of shoot

In Pinewood's game against SHC last night, they were repeatedly getting back door baskets and wide open looks at threes. These turned into a lot of easy points for PW. Defense has been a problem for SHC this year, and I don't think Pinewood will be getting as many of these easy points against Mitty. I'm not saying Pinewood couldn't pull the upset (like they did last year against SMS,) but I think it's also just as likely that Mitty could win by 20+.

And as I say every year, a big venue (like Santa Clara University) tends to work against the teams that rely more heavily on outside shooting. In this case that would be Pinewood. Mitty can be dominant in the paint, and PW has no real size to counter that.

Also, it can become demoralizing when Mitty's second unit comes in, and you realize they're as good as your starters. Again, not an insurmountable obstacle, but Pinewood has to keep their composure and continue to attack, even if they fall behind by double digits.

My prediction: Mitty 76 - PW 48.

SouthBay.. I think you are pretty spot on with how I think it will play out.. Maybe not 30 points but I would not be surprised. Looking back to last year, it was actually Pinewood who jumped out to the double digit lead and Mitty tightened down on D and methodically carved up PW's defense. If you take out the 1st quarter which they won by 8 and scored 27 pts, the score was 60-33 in the last 3 quarters. PW will have to last longer than 1 quarter to pull the upset.
