Rematch: SHP vs. Riordan

How is Irish Cheers doing tonight. ?
Palma was probably the best of the bunch. It's only a question of which Prep team shows up next week.

What's even funnier is Rgael (j-Square, Jones, Jr.) thinking the whole City is on the rabbit bandwagon. Sorry, only Riordan people care. Quit worrying about what others think.

I'll celebrate that day...

I still think in fairness to Palma. The Crussders should have been in the other bracket. Someone told me that the CCS had to go through SHCP, since they still hold the crown.

So the doubters ask, did SHCP improve? Shouldn't the question be which team improved? The Crusaders have been through the grind of the WCAL and truly it was that grit that pulled out a win over Palma.

The feeling on the field post game was not over confidence that the young crusaders are facing a team the bested early this season, that actually started this journey.

It was the "True" sense of destiny and shared focus of what they want for Riordan, what they want as a footnote to this season. What they have learned to actually believe...We Are One...We R Roirdan.

It is amazing what hope, belief and guidance can bring a program, I know it has been said before, but a lid of credit goes to "the three amigos" in leadership at Riordan Coach Fordon for making a vision into reality on Phelan Ave.

Yes...We R Riordan... But more importantly, We Are Crusaders, and the crusade is not over. Fight, Fight, Fight

Good lord, should really think of public speaking or perhaps a ministry. :D all kidding aside, it truly is a testament to the coaching staff/administration to get to where they are now, on the precipice of a CCS Championship. As Michael Jordan once said,
"If you accept the expectations of others, especially the negative ones, then you will never change the outcome."
I know this is year 1, but what an incredible bar to set for this class and this coaching regime. Well done, now time to go get the Regional bid. Wont be easy as SHP argueably has one of the best coaches in the CCS, who will no doubt make adjustments, but as this coaching staff showed last nite in a bit of adversity they too can make the necessary adjustments to win a game! Can't wait!

I agree OneDNA, the ability of Riordan's coaching staff to make defensive adjustments after that 1st quarter barrage by Palma is the difference between these coaches and the previous staffs. It had the makings of a Palma blowout after they went up 2 TDs in Q1. The defensive secondary did a 180 degree turn from last week and shut down Palma in the 2nd half with great coverage and hard-hitting. Also give credit to the D-line and LBs in limiting Palma's explosive RB Martinez after he was unstoppable in that 1st quarter with 2 TDs.

How to they go about determining when and where this game is played? I checked the link but no info but TBD.

1DNA, SHP-Riordan II to be played Sat night @ 7pm, Westmont High in Campbell. How / why they selected Westmont as the site is beyond me. SJCC would have been a better venue, but I believe Bellamine has the site. Here's something, why not Levi's or Avaya? At least there'd be TWO teams playing competitive football at Levi's. Lol!

When I think of Riordan vs SHP II it is hard not to think of VC vs Oak Grove. VC wins the first game early in season by 24-0. SO what happens in game #2 last nite is Oak Grove pulls away from VC & wins 42-23 - a swing of 43-points between the 2 games.

I do not think early season games and post season play games have anything to do with one another. If anything the losing team in the first game may have the edge in motivation & not over-estimating their opponent. SHP has big game experience, a 3-year starter & one of the best QB's in CCS and an excelent coach who as OneDNA points out will undoubtably make adjustments to disrupt the flow of Riordan'd offense.
Apparently Palma made some adjustments as well to hold the score down, though Riordan was able to make a FG in first 1/2 which turned out to be the difference. I think SHP is without a doubt a better team than the first one Riordan faced and believe this rematch will be much closer.
Crusader's - think VC-Oak Grove this week.

I think Riordans athletes are too much for SHP. SHP has a great coach and a very good QB but I just dont think the rest of the roster stacks up well enough. I havnt seen SHP play since week 3 so I am sure they have improved and Coach Lavorato will definitely have a game plan. Not trying to discredit SHP but they didnt exactly have a tough road to the championship game. I thought MVC was overrated so I wasnt shocked to see SHP handled them. If SHP can limit the big plays and slow down the game with long drives then they have a chance. I just dont see it happening though. The winner only will advance to the regional games so there is a lot on the line here.

SHP has two tough RB's and three fine WR's to complement the QB. They will score vs. Riordan. How often remains to be seen. The big question: Can SHP limit Riordan's big-play kids? You can bet the kicking game will be a focus.

SHP-Riordan II will be a close contest, but I see Riordan earning the title in a game a lot closer than the first. This will be the third meeting between both of these teams in 2 years. Both teams know their personnel. While Coach Lavorato is one of the best coaches in NorCal, BKK was the x-factor for the Gators as he was simply a beast in HS. SHP has very nice talent especially with Randall at starting qb for three seasons. Mahoni and Moimoi are extremely tough runners, but I came away impressed with the Crusaders handling of the Palma O-Line and their stud rb, Martinez. By far, Martinez was the most impressive rb the Crusaders have faced all season, given the fact the Crusaders faced Bgame's Palu, Serra's Lataimua and qb Nunn, SHC's JWS, SF's Likkio and Ahoia, Bells rb trio of McCauley, Garcia and Fernandez, VC's Walker and Sturns, M-A's Mims and St. Marys-Pierce.
Kevin Fordon and his coaching staff certainly needs to recognized as he has gone against seasoned coaches from the WCAL and Burlingame and Palma's talented coaches. The ability of the Crusader coaches to adjust during game play has not been seen in a LONG time as evidenced by shutting out Palma after the first quarter in a Big Game such as last night.
On offense, Riordan is presenting multiple formation looks and utilizing all of its personnel. Fordon has been switching Boone and Luavasa at qb, employing the Wildcat with Sanders taking the snap and showing power running formations with Boone, Sanders, Greene and Caston ready and able to take the snap/handoff at any time. McAfee and Norman have really stepped up on the receiving end as AVH is typically being shaded by the opponent's safety
On defense, Riordan's pass D is pretty impressive as you have McAfee, Davis, and Norman all 6-1 or taller that are long, rangy, and fast with excellent closing speed. This gave Palma's qb, Richardson fits as he threw three picks and should greatly assist in defending SHP's passing game. The Crusader Trench Mob continues to excel on both sides of the ball and pressured Richardson late in the game and Riordan's LBs - Illaio, Lasa Tofi and Jamarian Caston are finally healthy and have been impressive during the postseason run.
Lastly, teams avoiding kicking to AVH has put the Crusaders in great field position this post season and I don't see it changing after AVH torched SHP on a KO return for TD and several punt returns for long gains in the first meeting.
Yes. Riordan is very talented and deep, but this time of year coaching becomes a huge factor and Coach Fordon and his staff have certainly proved their mettle to date. Looking forward to next Saturday.

I'm waiting for Irish Jeers and Scott to weigh in.. Their keen insight is always welcome, oh they have moved onto freshman girls/ boys basketball ?

By land or by air, the Riordan Crusaders have been getting it done,Multiple looks on offense and sn adjusting defense that take the focused weapon away of the opponents.

The perfect TEAM? Some may debate that point. I state they are a "Team with Destiny" let's throw out comparisons of hard to beat a team the 2nd time, the strength of tenure coaching or experience of the opponent of being there before. These are all emotional parameters and only valid post game.

The reality is that this season, everytime someone tries to count the Crusaders out? They have fought and proven this is "R" time at Riordan. These are real parameters pregame and a proven track record of success...in Resl time.

The legacy of defense just didn't start this year in the Curtin family, I think that was seen this past Friday as the 4 interceptions. It reminded us all of the 2007 CCS champions and the influence of Danny Curtin's father who was the DB coach of that team. Check the stat sheet the Crusaded avg. 2 Int. per game.

At the end of the day, I get the feeling Coach Fordon actually feels, "my guys are better than your guys" and he knows that his staff will make sure his team is better prepared for your guys.

We "R" Roordan...Its "R" Time to shock the World.

Unless SHP has improved I don't see them beating Riordan. I watched SHP vs Carmel and Riordan vs Valley. Riordan has to be the clear cut favorite.

Riordan is having a great year. Enjoy it, don't worry about what I have to say...Please just enjoy it, cherish the victories, plenty of time in the future to debate.

Based on what I saw of SHP is that they will have to win in a shootout. They were not very physical on the lines and Riordan offense should have its way. However, Riordan DBs at times can play soft and if they don't get a pass rush SHP QB could have great success. I do think Riordan pass rush will give SHP problems though. I will be surprised if it is close unless Riordan turns the ball over or SHP will have to match the scoring. Will be interesting to see if Riordan goes for 2 on extra points ...will be a good indication of if Riordan sees a mismatch.

Good wishes to you Scott...come join other San Franciscians as we gather together as SF

Rabbit, why keep trolling these guys? SHC is, has, and always will be IRRELEVANT LOL moving on. ;)

Thanks Scott, I will enjoy as our boys play for the championship and you and Irish jeers break down freshman 3 point shooting percentages for the Irish basketball teams. I hear another night of reruns is in order.

It might be wise to express some sort of relaxed humility in 2015. Riordan has been pretty awful for a long time, until now. Will this good fortune and football success last? It's not clear at all. So enjoy this ride. While it lasts.

The key is Riordan is having success because they moved past the good old boy club. Being cellar dweller was not okay and of course not acceptable to the development of young men. It is not good enough to have talented Fr. & So classes, it is about developing them to earn success.

I suggest going to FedEx and using the copier, to copy a page of success for SHC.

Or attend with other SHC current players and parents this "Trip of Destiny"

We Are San Francisco...We R Roirdan

Agreed! While enjoying the fruits of this year's harvest, there is the unkown because this IS year 1. This staff has not done this before at another program. While I do think the culture HAS changed, adversity will see how good this coaching staff is. Let's not be so quick to establish this is as the next/1st great football program from the City. Its all about sustained success and this is Year 1 (2000 and 2007 also brought titles and then what...) and before you guys jump me, DO NOT get me wrong, cause I love what this staff brings to the table. I love that theyre young and can relate to today's athletes. Love they have the good DNA from being alums at the school and also the HC being an alum at THE top school in NorCal. But lets enjoy the season. I hate SH as much as anyone and cringed when my oldest had SH in his sights, till he came to his senses and chose wisely lol. Who knows what happens next year? Until proven time and again you dont. The Warriors are proving that this year, that their title wasnt a fluke. Time will tell, but damn the future looks good doesnt it? And this magical ride continues next Saturday, hopefully with a coronation. As my Pops use to say, "We never get too high after a win and we never get too low after a loss." Act like we been there even though we really haven't! ;) Lol. I'll see you Sat nite RGael, have the popcorn ready...

I do not hate SH, I dislike SI much more, but what irks me is the way Irish jeers and Scot evil took aim on us all year and now we can't call them out?

Agreed, guess I take the higher road now. If you caught me in 2000 and 07 under the moniker 1DnA you would have seen the instigator, guess I've mellowed with time huh JSquare? lol That said, SH and Serra I despise equally. SI? harmless cherries hahahaha Hopefully we get it done Saturday nite!

Yes. Crusader Nations fans are better than that. Coach Fordon has preached to his team to remain humble and respect your opponent as he knows firsthand what it was like last season...Look forward to seeing the Crusader Caravan making its way down to Silicon Valley Saturday night!

Yes, Jordan...

A stormy week of cold and rain. I am humbled that on game day we are having Sunny and cold. Perfect football weather for a perfect season...

I still don't know why you hate Stuart Hall so much...

(They're 8-man, JSq).

My bad...it just seemed like SHC was playing 8-man, with how effective they were last season? It is probably the way their player development is..."it takes 11-players to be effective of 8...

So true. See rubbit the 5th below. ["Tell me why colhenrylives? Really? Honestly?"] He can't figure it out.

Well then schedule The Hall next season. If they're really "as good as SHC", it will be yet another loss for Reardan.

Gators 35 Rabbits 28. If Riordan won we'd hear about it for 10 years. Instead the silence from the peanut gallery is most welcome (especially from RGaelJ2's cellar) and it will be for years.

When Riordan is ranked as high as Hill, Harbor, Gunn or Evergreen Valley in the CCS, I'll let you know. (or Washington state-wide).

Jordan or any other attendee's,

Of Riordan vs. SHCP part I: I was not at that match, but watch the tape. I saw many plays of the power run gaining 7-8 yards each. And they did the KO return too.

The Riordan team had shown so much more since then. So I ask, "is it really part II"?
