Riordan Football

At the Crab Feed I was told they had quite a few quality candidates and that they were planning on an announcement well before March. I'd give it another week.

SMH this is why the R losses year after year! Always behind on football! They should of hired a coaching staff long time ago. Frustrating to watch year after year! It will always be a Basketball and wrestling school.

Texas? Heard it was someone from down the peninsula? We shall see what’s been kept so secretive....

Modeste is a good hire. As was Fordon. As was probably Morris. As was Blake.

In all honesty the coaches haven't been the problem at Riordan.

But for anyone questioning it, how many times did little Sacred Heart Prep from the Peninsula Athletic League beat the WCAL powers? Dude just went 8-3 in the state of Texass. There is no doubt he can coach.

For some perspective, since 2002 (a landmark year for the WCAL due to the addition of Valley Christian and Coach Mike Machado _ Patrick Walsh arrived at Serra the previous year), Riordan has had eight head football coaches. VC and Serra (and Bellarmine) have had one each during that entire period. There is something to be said for consistency. Riordan advocates have to hope that their latest hire will last awhile.

New sports fields and facility along with this new hire of a coach with bonafide credentials signals a strong commitment from administration. I don't know anyone who wouldn't consider these to be anything but very positive moves.

I have no horse in this race but i can tell you it’s deeper than that! Nice field is a plus, a good coach is a plus but a good coach is only as strong as his assistants! The. The players buying in is gonna take time and convincing

If you have no horse in this race, why did you create the thread?
I find it funny that Coach Modeste was part of a national seach (lol!) . Father coached at Riordan, prepped at St. Francis, 2 year successful HC stint at a Jesuit HS in Houston, TX, coached at SHP as recently as 2015 - and beat Bellarmine twice and Riordan in 2015 in the CCS title games with arguably their best team in over a decade...He knows the challenges @ Riordan (from an opposing player's and coaches perspective) - he surely was there when SHP played at Riordan in 2014 and played on its scrub grass field and saw first hand an inept coach...And he still took the job.
He may know more than we all do. Rather than keep throwing shade at a program, let's see how this develops.

Excellent points.

Ahhh JoDAN. Take it easy. We all know you are a devout supporter of the Brotherhood.

Can’t blame people for taking such announcements with a grain of salt. Too many years of hearing the same “nation wide” search, etc..

I have coached against Coach Modeste for many years while he was under Coach Lavorato at SHP. No doubt he can Coach, which everyone agrees with. No doubt this is a good hire.

What was somewhat deceiving on the announcement is it painted a picture that RiorDAN hired a “Texas” coach. Yes, he coached the “Fighting Crusaders” in Houston for one season. Modeste is a Cali/Bay Area Coach. Hopefully this hire sticks around, and brings some balance to the WCAL.

@jordan24 that’s the second time you spoke slick to me! Relax on that!

No matter what we write on here things won’t change at Riordan because of this thread! I’m not talking trash about Riordan Football the entire League does that already! I pull for the school and the kids! Kids that I know that chose the school to play at no matter what direction it is going! I pull from those boys. Now how many Coaches have been there since 2009? The question is WHY ???? I hope this New Guy has all the support of the Administration, the Financial Department, the Boosters and Alumni. He’s got a mountain to climb! Wish him the best! Good for the kids that are there.

Jordan24 take a chill pill Bud

That’s what it’s all about- the kids and their parents who are investing in their student/athlete sons! We all know the recent history, time to move forward.
No intent to speaking slick to you. All the best !
