Mr Direct and Ted Smithers hit the nail on the head about the Riordan however some interesting data points:

Riordan won CCS in 2007 with 2 WCAL wins. Since then, the Crusaders have gone through 6 (count them) coaches with the same horrid results. When this senior class were freshmen (2016) there was hope, hype and promise. Last year when they matriculated to the varsity, it was the same horrid result. (1 - 9). Now a new coach (he was DC last year) along with coached from 2007 Championship team and we are to believe they will make a difference. Not exactly. This class has enjoyed success at each level as a class until last year's train wreck (choo choo). Yes, they did beat SHP 48 - 21, but SHP is not a WCAL team and they just did not play well at all.

6 coaches in 9 seasons? It about the PLAYERS and getting the best out of what you have. This class (2016) came in with so much hope, hype and promise, it would be great to see what happens when you turn athletes lose. They have shown they can control the LOS with is huge so now they have to score and play defense.

Maybe the new coach can bring some of that De La Salle experience and preparation to the Crusaders to enable them to win WCAL games. As majority of the staff are from the 2007 CCS team, maybe this team can find a way to make a CCS berth with Serra's post season ban. Is that possible? 9-2 as freshmen, 7-4 as sophomores, there is hope. Can they go 4-3 in WCAL? Are they for real or hype?

Blueandgold, Riordan's atrocious coaching carousel and performance the past decade+ has been well documented. This team returns everyone from last season and they were only able to get one win. So, what's changed?
New AD Mike Gilleran is the difference. He came onboard in Sept 2014 and in 3 months, made the decision to change the program and relieve John Lee of his head coaching duties.
Gilleran had two sons attend Riordan - and that's really the only tie he had to the Athletic Program. What he brings is an objective approach leveraging his experience as he was the long-time WCC commissioner and also holds post grad courses in Sports Management and Sports Law and Ethics.
Nepotism and hiring from the "old boys" network who's resumes were failed coaching practices and losing records were thrown out the door. Gilleran wanted to start fresh with a young and hungry coach who came from a winning program and fostered a culture of teaching young men life's lessons through the sport. Fordon had success in his previous coaching stints. Lastly, Gilleran and Fordon wanted to get former players/alumni engaged as part of the coaching staff and made sure they are also on-campus full-time faculty/staff.

Yes. I was at the game last Friday and Fordon's initial post game comments to his team were stay humble, is this is just one step and there is a lot of hard work to be done! No gloating, just recognizing (for one game) the great effort put forth. Nothing more nothing less. Everryone wrote them off including many SHP players as there was "talk" of an easy win and the Crusaders got wind of it...

I thought the Riordan coach said publicly "the boys were unleashed" ?

If one stays humble privately in front of the team, family and admin, why not stay humble to the reporter? http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Riordan-impressive-in-win-over-Sacred-Heart-Prep-6500121.php

Read the quote in its entire context...He simply meant that this was their first game and they were ready to finally play since they did not play the week before as all the other schools
Easy to spin his quote to whatever you want to perceive.

I did not spin anything. It is right here:

Fordon: "The Boys were unleashed"
Fordon: "Riordan is back on the map and not just a pushover. I think we made the point loud and clear"
Fordon: "Yes, I think this was a statement game"
Fordon: "The bad news is I don’t think we’re going to sneak up on anyone."

Even though past years have been rocky - don't "you" want to act like "they've been there before" ?

Have you ever met Coach Fordon? Talk to him. His phone number and email are posted on the school's website and he will respond to you. Believe me, he is a class act all the way. His focus is to rebuild this program and instill confidence and pride back in this team

As I said on the other post on similar subject: I read & watched the interviews and everyone was excited over the biggest win in years for a down-trodden program. So what? They're not supposed to be pumped up & excited?? I don't feel like anyone including the coach acted out of order or needs to apologize to anyone. Everyone conducted themselves with the utmost class, both athletes & coaches.

Interesting points about the new AD that were not considered. I thought the previous AD was an outsider - Gilleran reminds me of Pat Haden at USC.

Right, I am gonna ring him up and he's gonna answer....his quotes to the media were gnarly.

I want no apologies, I am sure the sacred post game gather up was special and sincere. The only quotes I had issue with were to the Media in sfgate.com

"Gnarly"? LOL Its been awhile since I heard that word used in mainstream. Your really trying to make a bigger issue of nothing as I previously replied to you on a separate post and again as others have tried to implore upon you on this post. Its ok, I get it, like today's youth its easier to hide then to figure out personally how one can be.

I sent welcome emails to John Lee, Mike Gilleran and Kevin Fordon when each were announced for their respective positions. Only two responded thanking me for the welcome. Mike Gilleran and Kevin Fordon.
So, you can still hide behind your keyboard - Coach Fordon will respond.

J was Fordon gnarly in his response? Maybe you had a different perspective of him via email? I met him personally more than a few times last year and didn't come up with that conclusion, but I could have been mistaken. Then again he was yet to be named the head coach...

1DNA, No. Kevin Fordon was not gnarly in his response. Lol! I met him in person for the first time last Friday @ the SHP game. I caught him after his talk with the team, reporters and other Crusader parents/supporters. Coach Fordon basically answered the questions that were given to him. The response about the game being a statement game was answering the exact way the question was asked: "Is this a statement game". Straight forward response with no cliches or declarations/boasts of a championship...Just recognizing the team's efforts during the offseason are showing positive first steps by the results of this game. Period. What else can you ask for?
Going back to my brief conversation with him...he was so happy for the players and their families. He was just enjoying the moment but told me this is just one step and the team will remain humble and respect all of their opponents and more hard work needs to be done...

Bckwrduranidiot and BlueGold are neck n neck to see who can spin this season and the first win into the most negative light. I suggest Bckidiot grab one of his old frosh team baseball bats and hit himself in the head 3-4 times to really get in the mood before his next post. Bluegold try communicating with the coach if your son/nephew/grandson didn't get to play last Friday.

Civil discourse FUPA - I mean FUBO - try to discuss without using words I might not understand from Phelanville. Do you like frosh soph. I haven't done FS since 1996. HS Varsity and Division One Baby. Read what I said. Facts are Facts.

I never said my nephew didn't play - sorry wrong assumption. I got it directly from some of the people who were there. I didn't pay that close attention to who was in or out except for the QB in 2nd Q. Let's see how they play tonight.

On the WCAL thread it indicates MA has some serious issues on offense - ie: you can;t win if you can't score points. Do they have a shot?
Of course, most people incl. myself didn;t see Riordan taking down SHP, let alone by 27 points. HS football can be very deceptive at times...
