Mitty 70 yrd thd return on poor rugby style punt by Riordan after 3 and outs by both defenses. Riordan looked surprised someone picked up the ball and ran.

Riordan answers with 80yrd TD drive capped by a Greene 5yrd TD run. Most if the drive was shirt quick passes and a Sanders and Luavasa run each.

Mitty answers back with a TD drive, 1 yrd TD run by Serra. 9:54 left in the 2nd, 14-7 Mitty. Riordan hurting themselves with penalties, 2 15 yrds already.

14-7 Mitty at the half. Riordan receives the ball in the 2nd half. Tran finished the 1st half at qb for Mitty. Didn't see Serra hurt so maybe just a different look. Running game is nonexistent for both teams. Special team return is the difference in the game.

After. 3 and out and terrible Riordan put and another 2 15 yrd penalties Mitty's Serra back in and he turns in over on the Riordan 12 and Riordan returns fumble 88 for a TD. 14-14. 9:05 left in the 3rd.

Serras scrambling is keeping drives alive for Mitty. Giving them problems. Mitty driving at the Riordan 20 with 5:47 to go in the 3rd.

46 yrd Mitty field goal sails right. 14-14, 4:11 to go in the 3rd. Riordan takes over and after 1 play hit with their 4th 15yrd penalty.

3rd and 13 from their own 16 and Luavasa finds Sanders for 79yrd gain to the 5. 4thd down on the 1, Mitty stopped Greene as he tried to bounce outside but pulled down short, with a face mask. TD Sanders on next play. 21-14 Riordan 58 seconds to go in the 3rd.

Riordan gets a 3 and out then scores 79yrd TD by Boone. 28-14 Riordan 9:45 to go. Mitty D is stunned. May be worn down. Been bending all game, that may have broken them. Tran back in at QB.

Mitty responds with TD drive most on a 59 yrd Tran pass on a double move and then yet another 15 yrd penalty and 2 more PIs. 3 yrd Tran TD pass. 28-21 8:40 to go in the 4th.

Mitty seemed to get a stop at their own 48, but Fordon calls gutsy fake punt on 4th and 8 and they pick up 15 yrds for first down. Looked like snapped to the upback and then taken outside and lateralled to fleet footed #77 for last 5 yrds. He fumbled at the end but Riordan recovered. 2:53 to go. 4th and 14, Riordan punts. Gonna be up to the defense. 90 yards to pay dirt. 2:44 to go. 1 Mitty timeout left.

Riordan gets 2 sacks, the 2nd resulting in a safety. It happened right in front of me and NO WAY the qbs knee was down. Riordan recovered and should have been a TD. Boones scores a late TD, 3rd of the day to make it 37-21 Final. Id say Riordan is the better team, but not by much. They need to be more disciplined with the 15 yrd penalties. Defense was impressive though. Especially pass rush.

Major kudos to the Crusaders. This has been a long time in coming. Serra next on the agenda at CCSF.

Very good game reports OneDNA as just got home curious about the game results. Sounds like Riordan's big play cpabiity and skill players carried them. It is a bit confusing that Mitty chose to start switching QB's in what was a winning conbo previous with Serra [?].

Mitty presented Riordan a different look with Tran coming in on their last series to close the 1st half. Excellent counter move by Coach Fordon in putting Boone @ qb to run the read option and wildcat to change things up. Mitty qb Serra came in with the impressive rushing numbers, but Boone seemed to smash all those with 2 long runs for score in the second half alone. He could have had three, but it was called back by a holding penalty.
Riordan's line play in the second half and overall team speed were the keys to the victory today. Fordon makes a gutsy call on 4th down with a short snap to Riordan's 245lb Payton Ilalio who goes right and pitches to 300lb Sam Tofi who makes the first down and fumbles, but luckiliy Riordan recovers. Looks like that RIordan Rugby play is paying off! Lol!
Crusaders had too many penalties to keep many Mitty drives alive, even receiving an unsportsmanlike to the Riordan sideline. In years past, this would have doomed the Crusaders, but gotta give credit to the Riordan coaching staff and the team's overall conditioning as they seemed to wear down the Monarchs in the 4th quarter. I don't know how Coach Fordon could stand taking second fiddle to Gen Lee last year, as he is really using all his skill players and setting them up for success. Luavasa, Sanders and Verba-Hamilton came in as the known offensive weapons this season - now add jr Josh Boone, Greene, McAfee and Norman to the mix!?! Wow! On the defensive side, soph Lasa Tofi, Norman (87 yd TD pick up of a fumble) and vets Payton Ilalio and Jamarian Caston came up huge as Mitty tried doubling up on Rocco Russell.
Riordan can't celebrate too much as Serra comes to CCSF next week. You can bet the Padres will be prepared as their coaching staff as well as Bellarmine's were on hand to scout the game.

1DNA, thanks for taking the baton and providing the game updates today. I was with some fellow alumni in the stands and it was nip and tuck until late second half. Lol!

Jordan - it is simply amazing the difference as in "night & day" using the same players as last season the the game plans & success Fordon has had so far. I hate to say it but Riordan made a huge move in the right direction & SHC should be paying attention although that's not to say the admin there will do anything to change the course they're on [unfortunatley].

Agreed. First time Ive seen them play in person and was really impressed how mature the line has gotten. Very disciined. Shows the value of having experienced lineman. That said, the one frustrating thing in the 4th was the corners still biting on the double moves accounting for huge chunks and no safety help from where I watched in the end zone. That said, they must have had at least 5, 15yrd penalties, that has to stop, period. Wonder if playing on the turf of City College next week will help Serra, as the grass at Erskine Field (oops thats not PC, is it) was a home field advantage along with the ridiculous crown in the middle for "drainage purposes" lol regardless its a good win. And one I revel in and appreciate since years like this dont come very often to the realistic alums in purple. Keep it goingg, I'll be out of town next week looking for updates.

Yeah, several defensive breakdowns and poor judgement led to many first downs either by catch or penalty. Secondary play had been very good until today. They better shore that up pronto as the Padre receivers are far more dangerous.

Congrats to Riordan, great win. Now I don't feel so bad about the drubbing they gave my Panthers last Saturday

Riordan LB/RB Jamarian Caston's recent quote in Prep2Prep pretty much sums it up on the impact of head coach, Kevin Fordon:
"Coach Fordon has changed the era at Riordan and changed us all,” ... “What he’s done is special.”

Good luck to the Panthers this season. Hope the the series continues between both schools.

A win like this will bring an old poster like Jsquare out of retirement. As I am getting older...I am trying to keep the same posting name and password.

Many thanks to OneDNA and Jordan for keeping up the Intel and information in some recent dark years In Riordan FB.

Great hearing from you JSquared! Coach Ryan Jones is doing a great job with the Crusader "Trench Mob'"!

Jordan,

What I like is these assist. coaches are the ones who capture success and are able to pass it on.

High Praise to the "three amigos" in Joe C, Vic A & Mike G for seeing a spark of difference in Coach Fordon.

For too many years the mode of thought was doing the same thing and expecting different results....they have a name for that

J2? The man, the myth, the Legend? We are not worthy! Now, wheres your buddy iHop2? Lol Hope all is well my friend, hopefully catch you at a game this year!

Sorry, I missed you Saturday. What a game? I sat with Dr. Hoopsology. It is so nice to see the Riodan Fan base back to norm. The chats have feeling and I am seeing that Swag in full force.

This Saturday is the real test. .Mitty to me was the opening act for this season,

Yes, beating Serra @ Serra, as they did in Rob's year, for me was the pinnacle of that season, even though they went on to win the CCS. Its always better when they beat the Dad's! Heck, theyre Saints now, so it will take a monumental effort to knock down St. Padre! LOL Must have been some good conversation going on between you and the Dr!

We had better step our game up if that's going to continue as a series. We need more boys also
