Sabrina Ionescu with GW 3 pointer

That was awesome! Impressive, especially considering she hadn't shot very well on the few opportunities she'd had before.

The last one was the biggest one!!!

Another great game in the WNBA playoffs. I hope everyone on this board, and lots of players, have been watching.

Well... The first quarter went about as badly as it could ever go... 19-10 Lynx, Sabrina hurt her shooting hand, too. Looked like maybe thumb got jammed. We'll have to see how that goes...

Sabrina's hand appears fine... her shooting is NOT. 0-8 from the floor.

Halftime, 34-27 Lynx.

Wow... Sabs with a corner 3, nope... but they get a stop on the other end... Time out, 60-58 Lynx. 6.3 left, Libs ball.

Stewie fouled, 2 shots... 83% shooter who just missed a pair a couple possessions ago.

But, there's a challenge by the Lynx.

5.2 left.

Challenge overturned, Stewie at the line, need 2 to tie. both good!

Libs need a stop to force OT.... and they GET said stop! 60-60.

5 minutes of free basketball...

Foebich hits a 3 for the LIbs... 63-60. 3:38 left after 4 empty possessions.... Sabally STEAL for the Libs! Layup good, 65-60. 3:14 left.

Libs force a shot-clock violation!!

Sabally turns it over, apparent foul, review ongoing... 2:44 left.

foul stands, Lynx ball.

Lynx guard throws it away!

Stewie 3-ball, nope... Lynx rebound, smallest player on the floor. Lynx ball... Drive, foul... 2 shots for McBride. Both good, 65-62.

Sabally charging foul. 1:32 left.

Collier left for an easy drive, but she is SERVED A WILSONBURGER!

They take it in, Stewie knocks it off the Lynx player!

65-52 Libs, 1:12 left...

Ugly but intense game... Crazy stuff!

Sabs with a midrange, no... but the Libs STEAL!

Sabs with a long 3 after nothing gets going.. Nope, out to the Lynx.

Still 65-62, Lynx time out with 18.2 left.

Corner 3 to tie..... NO!!!

Libs rebound, 13 seconds.

Napheesa Collier, Lynx star, fouls out.

Stewie fouled... 2 FT's coming.

Both nothing but net, 10 seconds left, Libs by 5.

Foebich STEALS THE INBOUNDS PASS!!

Libs WIN!! 67-62 final score... Not gonna say anything at all about Sabrina's shot %... :)

Ugly game, but exciting. The previous games had better shooting, and better offense, but Minnesota's team defense in this game was exceptional. Sabrina got few open looks, and the reason the Libs couldn't make threes was that the Lynx were relentless defensively.

Agree that the game was ugly but still VERY entertaining. Do you think that given how well Sabrina has played in the WNBA, she can be crowned Bay Area GOAT?

I feel like most Gmae 5s (or Game 7s) can be a little ragged. Nerves are racheted up and both teams know each other REALLY well.

But overall it was a really fun series!

There will be a lockout/work stoppage in 2026. The question is how long ...

I'm biased, but I can't think of another NorCal female basketball player who's come close to what Sabrina Ionescu has done. And it's not like she's an off-the-charts athlete who just relies on physical ability to succeed.

It'll be interesting to see what they're actually looking for. I'd imagine they may have to change the entire model to command a fraction of the NBA money. With only 40 regular season games and working for 5 months (less this year if you include the Olympics), I'd be interested to see what they're looking for. It's similar to men's and women's tennis. For men, it's a best of 5; for women, it's a best of 3; yet at all the major tournaments, it's equal pay. I'm not suggesting going to an 80-game schedule and then commanding NBA money...just interested to see what the players will be asking.

You're right, Clay. Nobody has come close to accomplishing what she has. NCAA player of the year, All-NBA team, WNBA champion...pretty impressive for a kid coming from Orinda. Here's an interesting fact. The Lamorinda area has produces 7 Olympic athletes, 3 NFL players, 2 golfers, a few lacrosse professional athletes, and now an WNBA champion. Not bad for a small community.

I think this is a big moment for the WNBA. You want to grow when the brand is hot, but if you push for too much, it will really hamper the league going forward.

She’s not from Orinda, her family lives in Walnut Creek. She only traveled to Orinda for HS as her AAU coach was coaching there. I don’t believe WC is considered part of Lamorinda, but it is certainly Lamorinda adjacent. Very impressive what this WC kid has accomplished!

The big issue in the contract negotiations will be the percentage of revenue that goes to the players. WNBA players get a much, much lower percentage of revenue that any other pro athletes. I don't expect things to go smoothly.

Alanna Smith brought her arms down at the end of the play. That's an automatic foul at every level. Note that when Bridget Carleton drew her two charges, her arms were completely vertical. If Smith keeps her arms vertical, it's a charge.

But I really hate the focus on the officiating. Kayla McBride took advantage of a Liberty defensive mistake to get a wideopen three -- and missed it. Cheryl Reeve put Natisha Heidemann in the game at a crucial moment and she promptly turned the ball over twice. The Libs' offense was aimless and stagnant. Stewart and Sabrina couldn't make a shot. Carleton fired blanks.

The game did not turn on that call. It was decided by the players and coaches.

re: the length of the season and playoffs, it was announced during the Finals that the reg. season for next season will be lengthened to 44 games, and that the playoff rounds will also be longer, I think best of 7 for the finals, and best of 5 for the semi's.

Since they don't have an Olympic break to contend with, that's workable, even if the overall calendar length is shortened by a week to avoid contending with football. As far as that issue goes, I don't know why they don't just avoid the weekends late in the season.

Heck, even the NBA itself can't contend with football...
