Grant will beat Yuba City. Otherwise, I like your picks or don't know enough about the teams to offer an opinion.

I have picked against the Yonkers and like a good upset. Grant should win if they play the level they can. Yuba City is Hot and Healthy.

i think Center might have a solid chance for a W against Sonora. They played Sutter into OT a few weeks back and they have some speed. The only other comparable team Sonora played (Antelope) they gave up 53 points. Haven't seen either play though.

I read that in Calpreps and agree. Sonora at home is tough, it is Cold and the roads are dark. They do have excellent restaurants though.

i see it as a toss up between Grant and YC. They each beat their common opponent (indy) by one score. should be a really good game.

I would not discount any team, especially one with good coaching. Yuba City will come prepared, play hard, try to control the clock with the run game (to limit Grant touches), and play some solid defense. They'll take there shots on O and gamble here and there on D. They have the potential to make this a good game.

Always pay respect to your opponent, especially those with nothing to lose and a chip on there shoulder for being the underdog.

With that said, I would be surprised if this game is close. In the past, Grant has always been pretty predictable on offense. Teams could easily load the box and commit to the run. And on predictable passing downs, when Grant is in 3rd and forever, D coordinators are usually licking there chops.

This year is different, especially the offense. Grant has a QB this year that is chunking the hell out of that rock. Any given play could result in a touchdown. D coordinators will have to play more conservative or risk #2, 3, 4, 6, 11, or 19 taking a short catch to the house. Play conservative and #1 or #28 will run the rock down your throat behind a young, but physical O-Line. They have a lot of weapons and the QB to get them the ball.

Again, I respect YC, but if Grant plays how they should, I'd say the final score should be 56-21. If YC plays lights out, I still see Grant winning, but by a much closer margin of 33-21.

YC best chance to win, in my opinion, would be for Grant to have a slow start, and to win on special teams. Grant does not kick extra points or field goals. Control the clock to limit offensive touches and then go all out on Defense to stop Grant from converting 2 point conversions. If YC were to win, I'd say it would be a really close game, 21-20.

Either way I don't see YC scoring more than 21-24 points. But hey It's the playoffs, soooo anything could happen! The most important thing to me is that every player that walks on the field, walks off the field, of course injury free!

Not sure what to make of YC this year. New HC, and 3rd HC in 6 years? YC has some of the toughest kids our section can produce so never count out a kid or team from Yuba. If, and this is a BIG IF...if YC is healthy (heard they have been a MASH unit all yr). IF YC can play covg and get to the Grant QB then I would not be shocked to see YC win. Imo, based of nothing but rumors, YC would have been the favorite to win CVC and probable bye week 1 of playoffs if it was a health issue for YC in their early season struggles.

With that said, I think Grant is going to go on a run though. Way too much talent for the rest of the D3 field of they stay healthy. Way too big and fast for D3.

Agreed. I don't fully know what to make of YC this year either. Not sure of the current health situation but heard they have been really beat up as well. Concerning the head coaches...the latest head coaches have all been hired from within the program...there was a health issue with a HC, then a retirement by next HC after 5 years and current coach hired from within. I really like the football staff...all good guys.

Hoping the Honkers can pull it off on Friday. We all have lots of respect and admiration for Grant Football.

Games I'm looking forward to this in bracket:

Escalon-Hilmar
Vanden-Buhach Colony
Patterson-Roseville
Kimball-Lincoln
Casa Roble-Capital Christian

Casa v Capital is interesting. Capital has to be the most talented #7 seed in D4 in the history of our section. Crap draw for Casa @ #2.

Vanden should take care of Buhach Colony although if the Thunder can play defense might upset.
Eski able to revenge loss at home to the Yellowjackets? Hard hitting teams, punishing the TVL with this early SJS Qtr. matchup.
Patterson should put a lot of pressure on Roseville QB. Roseville was able to get that pick at the end of the game. Tigers will win...lol
Kimball is a good team; Lincoln is a good team. Game will come down to turnovers and penalties. Very close but Jaguars at home might be too much.
Rams and the Cougars both have good teams. I think Casa is stronger Defensively, but very close game if Capital can score. Casa Roble could have won in week 1 at Placer. (37-35 loss) They would be 10-0

Idk much about the YC head coach coaching issues over the past few years, but this years coach in my opinion has done a good job putting his team in a position to win each week. Outside of a good thumping from Roseville and a 2 score loss to Pleasant Valley. All 6 of those losses were to a playoff team. And 4 of those losses were by less than a touchdown (6, 1, 6, & 3). They could have easily been a 9-2 team instead of 5-6. I see some good things with this coaching staff so hopefully they have a chance to hang around for a while to develop the football program.

Please don't get my post confused, I am still hoping my Pacers whoop they ass tonite, but much respect to the coaching staff and the YC community.

Anyways, I'll be at the game tonite patrolling up and down the visitors stands moving in silence. I'll be easy to spot. I'll be the one who doesn't cheer whenever YC makes a good play. If any of you kats are going do be at the game tonite don't hesitate to say what's up. I may not be the most social or outgoing person, but I always speak when spoken too. And I always show love and respect when shown love and respect.
