Can anyone shed light on the new rule about winning your league equals playing in the playoff division of your league. Examples Elk Grove in D1 and Sac High in D2?????
Will enrollment not still play a factor for league champs

What is the difference between state playoffs A and AA. So for example Div 1 A and Div 1 AA. And, are the divisions based on school populatin?

It is a combination of enrollment and performance based. Specifics are lacking in this first go around.

Streak: thanks. I will wait for the cif to get their playoff policies in place. I would have thought they had all the logistics in place.

bella: You're right, i wished this was organized. But, i am not surprised. When dealing with something new, and with this many divisions, and dealing with the cif state organization, i figured there would be "growing pains" As for having 7-8 too many, i think the philosophy of the cif board may be to give all section champs (and runner ups in open divisions of ccs and san diego) a chance for state playoffs.

Yeah still way too many divisions.

Do not like the idea of rewarding "losers" (runner ups) another game even if it is a open or tougher division they lose in (Pac 5 argument).

Well with the new playoffs I believe the top teams could be:
Jesuit (bubble - could end up in D2 with new rule) depending is Downey wins their league if not Jesuit would be D1
Napa
Granite Bay
Vintage
Whitney
Grant
Rocklin
Del Campo
Antelope
Sac/Burbank

*Elk Grove, McNair and St. Marys get bumped top D1

I like the new format of moving league champs up to to the league designated division. D1 will be very good this year.

Also, the D-I, D-II, etc. thing doesn't necessarily mean anything, either.

It's been said that the CIF is going to do a 1-26 ranking for NorCal and 1-25 for SoCal. #1 for each region goes straight to the Open finals, then #s 2 and 3 play for D-IA, 4 and 5 for D-IAA, etc. When they get to the smaller schools (1250 or fewer students), a second set of Open teams will be selected (4 total). There's supposed to be one play-in game for NorCal because some divisions are only 2 rounds.

You really think the CIF would have this organized? 13 divisions is about 7-8 to many.

I disagree. I believe Texas has 13 rounds and they don't even really crown a true classification champ.

If we want to limit the number of total divisions, then all sections should do something like how the CCS is doing. Say some divisions are state-level and some aren't. Teams from lower leagues can opt into higher divisions for state, if they want.

Agreed think the CCS playoff concept has been the best. When the SBG's came along, doesn't mean from a section standpoint they werent good. Same with the Pac5 set up, great four weeks and almost all too match ups, but argument is it eliminates quality teams (aren't playoffs supposed to be quality ball?).
