Sac State Opts Out

Logically it makes sense when dealing with the turnaround. Different level, but I wonder how high schools will square this away

Hard to argue to go all in a *season anyway. I’d focus on August 2021. If HS season goes in January, CIF should consider junking any spring football SBG’s to keep gap a little longer of games played before the fall. Have section championships and call it a year to regroup.

I agree with this. It seems prudent to get in whatever kind of season you can and call it good.

My first initial football thought, is that I feel bad for my guys that are on the team and on the coaching staff. Everybody over there wants to play football and compete. I had a feeling they might opt out but I was hoping for good news.

I am bummed I don't get to watch Brandon Knott and Davion Ross play!

It would be hard for any program, but it is especially tough for Sac State, which had a ton of momentum from last season. Hopefully they can keep some of it with this layoff

I’m feeling very fortunate for my son using up his eligibility in 2019. Cal High alum Nick Friedel has decided to forego his final season of eligibility at USD.

All but 2 schools in the Northern Section are forgoing the SBGs and finishing after Sections with 7 game regular seasons.

Didn’t he RS at slo?
I’ll always remember a non-FBS head coach saying “Why would parents pay a dime for an extra year,” so the Torero made a good decision. Those Pioneer schools are $$$.

My son red shirted at Cal Poly and Nick red shirted at USD

Got it. When stated “using up his eligibility” I thought he maybe had another year to play.
It’ll be interesting to see how significantly Pioneer rosters change skipping a season.

Tyler used up his eligibility Nick has one year remaining.

Pluto.tv is replaying Tyler, JJ Koski and Carter Nichols final collegiate game against Northern Colorado at noon today for free on channel 752 a game that Cal Poly actually won. Tyler wore #60 and played left tackle sometimes lining up at tight end either right or left. JJ wore #6 and played WR while Carter played safety wearing #29. The Cal Poly offense rushed for 402 yards that day nice way to end a chapter in one’s life.

So far only Sac State is opting out.

Big Sky Football Plans

There's no ideal scenario with the situation we are in. But a 6 game spring season is not the same a a fall 10+ game season. I think it will only help the teams playing it to stay sharp and prepare for the fall in 2021--especially Cal Poly which needs to get up to speed with their new offense.

With Bubba Jr no longer playing I feel totally out of the loop. Is it safe to say that participation in the 2021 spring season counts as a full season against a players eligibility? Also, how many games can a true freshman play in the spring season and still retain their red shirt status?

They all get an extra year of eligibility regardless of whether they play or not.

It's not a perfect solution, because while schools will be allowed to go over their limit on scholarship players, will they be able to afford to do so? And is that going to make it tougher for current high school seniors to get recruited?

I'm not sure if the number of games a true freshman would be able to play in to stay a red shirt, is going to change, but I would guess it won't. They seem to be trying to give the players as much flexibility as possible.

Another reason playing outside of CA is the only thing that makes sense. That whole class of kids got screwed for no reason.

Having listened to your unhappy posts for the last few months. It sounds like your on your way out. Even though your posts have been for the most part, angry and depressing, every one has a right to speak. You should find a place where you can feel safe and happy. The southern parts of the country might find you fitting in better with Less restrictions. The south has that history of indivual rights for their States. In any case take care.

Here's wishing you great football

From what I read and heard from Coach Taylor, this wasn’t a rash decision or something the university pressured him to make.

He said he arrived at the decision after carefully consulting with his players. Apparently the majority didn’t want to play this Spring then turnaround and play at CAL in August.
