Its sad to hear that Menlo College, a seemingly affluent and thriving school cuts its football program. It was a NAIA school but was a great option for local kids who were not D1 level athletes. There has to be a way to bring back some D2 type programs. St Marys, Santa Clara, UOP, SF State, CS East Bay. Had did Humboldt survive Title IX. Back the day the league was Hayward, SF, Chico, Sonoma, Humboldt, Stanislaus, Cal Lutheran, Santa Clara and St Marys. As far as I kow all programs lost due to Title IX

Menlo appeared to be rising school for opportunity for good bay are kids to stay local, but now we have nothing.

Another big reason that the nice D II league was decimated was the NCAA itself. In 1992 the NCAA legislated that Division I schools could no longer field D II or D III football teams, and they would be required to maintain Division I-A or I-AA programs. The cost of a D I-AA was much greater (like 10x) than a D II program. Many schools just couldn't afford it.

Title IX an issue for sure in play then, but less a factor nowadays. Affluent neighborhood doesn't guarantee a freely spending athletics budget. Once the CTE issue percolates down from the NFL expect the D3s to gradually drop FB too, as the gate there, like Menlo is less than many HS games. Dwight Hicks does a good job acting in Berkeley Reps "Xs and Os" production focusing on CTE and concussions. It runs a few more weeks.
