Is this the last year for Kerry Keating? Santa Clara is 0-5 and they are losing to teams that are not very good, and you look at their roster and there are no NorCal kids. Why are our local schools not recruiting our local players?

Terrible coach… worse person.. Terrible move by a first rate institution. Nice job getting rid of dick davey. I called this a few years ago.
Yeah he's done.

You have to prioritize local players and get them to want to stay home. Both of those factors are issues for Santa Clara.

Streak you are 2 nice. I'm a little bit more vocal on this issue. Santa Clara is too good of an institution to settle for a JV coach. Great tradition, awesome facilities, big time alumni… Lets move on from the keating era.

I'm less in the know on Keating as a person, but grow tired of people saying NorCal schools don't recruit local players. It is not as easy as signing any local kid you want. Part of the joy of college is seeing a different part of the state or country.

Streak you do make a valid point the local kid does have to want to stay local but some
Of these local schools dont even put forth the minimum effort to land some of norcals mid major
Talent or from the sacramento area if santa clara made it a priority things could be different.I find it hard
To believe that good players from here would rather be in montana then Santa clara but its happening
Travis is doing a helll of a job up there plucking good bay area talent up to montana.

I'm pretty sure that some of NorCal mid major kids would appreciate and be delighted to be in Santa Clara oppose to Montana. Again, hats off to Travis as he's doing exactly what these local schools should be focusing on.

Don't make excuses guys. Santa Clara has a pretty good soccer program and they seem to do just fine attracting kids. A degree from Santa Clara holds a lot of weight. Not quite Stanford but if your follow academics it's not far behind.
Keating era is over. They are 0-4 and haven't played anybody good. A good
D2 team would beat them. Time to turn the page.

They should hire greg clink or Craig McMillan to take over that program both would be able to pull in some local talent as well as recruit at a high level.

As a SCU grad and Bay Area resident it boggles my mind why they don't recruit more athletes locally, specifically in basketball and baseball. Attendance and interest would definitely increase! Back in my day we had three local kids on the basketball team - Vanos, Keeling, and Lamson. Those teams were good, not great, but they had great support of the students and the alumni.

As far as baseball goes, there is plenty of baseball talent in the area that doesn't even get looked at. I know local kids personally that were interested in SCU but were never contacted and are now playing at the D1 level (several at WCC competitors). Again, more local kids on the team = more interest and attendance.

I grew up across the street from harold keeling people forget how good he was at lincoln high in san francisco then santa clara. He had a very good career overseas and and did quite well for himself very sad and tragic what happened to nick vanos.

I know for a fact that their were some local kids that would want to go to Santa Clara and coach would not even look at them!

Bones40- Couldn't agree more. Greg Clink grew up in Morgan Hill and would be a great fit at SCU. He has Chico State a top 20 ranked team year in and out! Mcmillan is another household name in hoops. SRJC powerhouse as well. His pedigree is good. Clink is really polished. Sign him up please!

Just to add St. Mary's has a great coach, but looking at their bench I thought it was the 1950's. You mean to tell me that there are no local kids worth recruiting? And the Australian kids they have are not very good!! Go figure.....

St. Mary's just blew Stanford right off the floor in the 2nd half... Guys shared the ball and sank a ton of 3's... Very young team, too. 3 juniors and no seniors at all.

Jordan Ford is gonna have to be at least as good as I *think* he is to get any floor time next year... Not sayin' he won't play, but he'll hafta earn it!

I was not impressed at all with their victory, and to be honest Stanford is not very good. When St. Mary's go to play Cal they will lose by 30, the foot speed of their Australian players is very poor. In terms of Jordan Ford yes he will have to work, but I don't see him having any problem breaking into that lineup.

SCU didn't offer Pridgett ( el cerrrito) or Warren (St Mary) both was at there elite camp this summer. Derryl Williams ( son of SCU graduate). Kendal Jackson( of O' dowd . now playing a IVY league school). Plus also was given first shoot at Harold keeling nephew, Christian Keeling ( Charleston southern commit) show no interest. local talent and family ties to school no offers..just naming a few..

As an SCU alum, I was against Keating from the beginning and the way Davey was treated was terrible (why not pay him more and up the recruiting budget). I would bet that the program would have done better than it has. I can't tell you what type of person Keating is, but not impressed in his coaching or recruiting abilities. I understand that the school wanted to raise the profile of the program and level of recruits but Keating really didn't help either and if he did it seems he under performed as a coach. I do recall a radio interview of him mentioned that he would raise the recruiting level and level of play. Didn't happen and the program has seemed to digress. I didn't get it all why the school going after him. Davey was a great coach considering the level of talent (yes he had a few great players at some points put got so much out of his teams) and seemed to overachieve in many years. At least they got to the NCAA tournament under Davey. What a great guy and coach. I hope they make some changes soon. I can understand coaching changes, but this one was a terrible fit in my opinion. Keeling is one of my favorite SCU players ...great player for them. The Vanos, Keeling and Lamson team was a scrappy team.

Santa Clara is now 0-5 with 2 ugly losses to UC Riverside and Irvine. They are a D2 team. Keating has to be out.
Randy Bennett has done an amazing job at St Mary's. Do I like all the Australians? Not really but he does have some local kids and did recruit Jordan Ford who will play right away. Those foreign kids tend to be much higher skilled than the AAU/And 1 generation players we often see in the states. But get rid of keating!

Foreign players having a higher skill level is a myth. Larry Legend, St. Mary's players have a higher skill level based on what? The stats from last year, suggests otherwise. The team shot 71.% from the free throw line. They only had one player over 80 percent and no one over 90 percent. They only shot 37 percent from 3 last year. They had 1.24 assist for every turnover.

Their two foreign NBA players Dellavedova or Patty Mills do not have higher skill levels than most NBA guards.

This area does not produce enough division 1 talent, where programs like SMC, USF, SCU can live off local talent exclusively.

But at least give the local players a shot and then make that assumption that they can't live off local players. Damn I know there has to be some that will make a difference, oppose to all foreign players.

I can't believe St Mary's even came up. They just embarrassed Stanford. I want to say they've won 20+ games for almost a decade in a row. Sure I would love to see at least 3 or 4 norcal kids on a 13 man roster. But lets not start tearing into St Mary's stats. They win. Period. Ford will be a great addition there.
