As to this notion that the vaccine doesn't actually prevent anyone from getting sick, I'll share my personal story with which I've been dealing for this past week...
My gf (fully vaccinated) went to a training seminar in a different state (a purple state) where no one was wearing a mask. When she got back a week from last Friday, I picked her up from the airport, then sat closely with her on the sofa while watching tv for about an hour. The next morning, she tested positive for COVID. She's been having the usual shortness of breath, loss of smell/taste, and fatigue symptoms. She just tested positive again on Sunday, so she's still definitely sick. Thankfully, though, she's does not currently appear to be at risk of needing hospitalization.
That news came to me just after I picked up my daughter for a weekend visit. So, then both my daughter and I had to quarantine for a week, which meant she had to miss school. I had to miss a business trip and work from home. My gf has also had to make several unusual arrangements for food and to get her kids to and from school.
By the end of Saturday, I was feeling an odd tingle in my chest and my temperature went up by about 1 degree. This carried through until about late Tuesday. Wednesday morning, my daughter and I got tested. We didn't get the results until Friday evening. Negative. We took an at-home rapid test shortly afterward. Thankfully, also negative. I was able to take my daughter back to her mother and she's now back in school as I type this.
People can claim whatever they want about what the vaccine does or doesn't do, but I 100% attribute me not developing a positive result and illness due to not only getting myself vaccinated, but also having just received my booster on the preceding Monday.
Everyone needs to take off the blinders where they only think of themselves and how they think they'd respond if they contracted the virus. There are so many domino affects that have to be considered, even if you do pull through ok. We're all in this freakin' mess together. We need to stop thinking selfishly.
