Serra quarterback Daylin McLemore suffers season-ending injury

So now what? How does Serra adjust with two difficult games, vs. VC and SI, (and playoffs) remaining? Do the Padres go with their sophomore backup? Do they enlist the services of their JV guy? Or maybe do they go an entirely different route? Who knows? But the calculus has changed. A lot. The defenses of both VC and SI pose formidable problems. The Serra coaching staff will earn their money this week and next.

Serra is still the best team. VC will be the toughest challenge. The new QB will get it done.

Im shocked Serra took their foot off the gas pedal at half. Also small victory Irish scored a TD, 1st in 3 games. Could be some momentum there heading into the league bottomfeeder games the next two weeks.

Why shocked? This is a sign of good sportsmanship among friendly rivalries. As for SHC momentum - I hope they can hold their head high at the end of the season.

It’s hard to quantify how significant losing a starting QB is to a team (3 star, team leader). Try shifting gears with your left hand tomorrow. It can be done but good grief if this isn’t the textbook team definition of adversity.

Valley was already the toughest challenge for the Padres with all hands on deck. Not to mention It was already a matchup that you would have expected more pass vs. the run but with QB2 and a week to prepare that’s a tall order. Interested to see how the Padres adjust now. Glad to hear Dylan will be okay, sound like a tough kid of great character that Colleges would love to have.

Any intel on the backup?

if I was coaching I would go wildcat with Loville and tell Walsh to get his fat ass back at running back. Lol, let’s go!

Would not be a shock to see Serra try a different offense/QB in each half, assuming the first half is not a slam dunk in the Padres' favor. VC defense is formidable, one of the best in NorCal and loaded with college-level guys. Serra's defense and special teams will have to over-excel in this one to compensate for a diminished offense. It can be done. The motivation will certainly be there Saturday afternoon. Would not be a surprise to see Mulani at TE on several occasions if Serra tries to be run-heavy. Still, scoring in excess of 21 digits vs. VC will not be a walk in the park by any stretch of the imagination. And that's about half of Serra's normal output. Should be very interesting. Oh, and don't sleep on SI the following week. That one won't be a gimme at all whether the WCAL title is still on the line or not.

Well said.
Yes sir, whatever means necessary, be it next man up or creativity, find a way to move the chains. Can’t leave that defense out there all afternoon. Love the idea of Mulani at tight end to help the run game.

Im no statistical historian, but from memory Serra loves to put up points. I wouldnt call it lack of sportsmanship but rather insane depth in talent. Personally, the benchmark is 50+ point games. If someone wants to fact check from 2010-present during league play which school has the most 50+ point games against a league opponent, my guess is it would be Serra.

As for the Irish, I dont think two really good (by SH standards) years was a fluke because Coach Mac I think is an excellent coach. This year, they did not have that RB and that MLB he could normally count on because of injuries and/or graduation. Playcalling can definitely be limited on offense and defense if he doesnt have the right guys in there. Heres to the 2020 team to bounce back with a better bill of health and hopefully a RB in Mixon that will be ready to return SH back to 2017-2018 form.

I'm with FBAddict on this subject & he is right-on. Here is my post on the WCAL thread prior to the game when some posters were predicting the Padres would break the school record by scoring 77 points against the hapless Irish.

"While the Padres have the ability to certainly score 77 [or more} against an obviously over-matched Irish squad that will not happen - or my name isn't Rmbr26.
Coach Walsh is well liked, has class, integrity and is simply put "one of the good guys" to try to run it up like that.
77-0 indeed would certainly be "cringe-worthy".

I know the Coach Walsh history well and his Serra teams have never poured in on any team other than getting out to ridiculous leads within the 1rst 1/2's of games prior to pulling starters. That's what happens when his teams in recent years have set numerous WCAL scoring records.

Here's SHC losses by large margins this season to upper echelon WCAL teams:

SF 42-14 over Irish
VC 61-0
Mitty 39-0
Serra 35-7 [Serra the highest scoring offense in the WCAL]

Question: Of the 4 teams above which team could have put the biggest "hurt" on the Irish had the Coaches wanted to run it up?

It wouldnt be St. Francis. They dont run up the score. If youre saying Machado is a jerk for running it up, who am I to argue because the proof is right there. My Serra prediction was just that. So I was really wayyyyyy off on the 77-0 guess. Rooting for the Serra good guys vs the not so nice VC team.

Good points, hard to predict. On the other hand the kid looks very athletic, and maybe the element of surprise is on the side of Serra given the new QB. Yes, everyone would rather have their starting QB, but I think this kid will be good to go.

So VC should have started taking a knee? It was the third and four stringers that were scoring after the game was settled, one being a 96 yard TD run by a RB that has seen very minimal playing time this year. Do you tell these players not to try their best? Maybe the defense should have just made some tackles. When I played HS ball we regularly lost by 50 plus points. It wasn’t because the other teams were running up the score. It was because we just plain sucked. We never complained about the other teams. It was all us. We were 0-10 my senior year and no game was even close. I feel for SHC as I have been there. But the fault was on us, not our opponents for the final scores.

You're very candid and honest. Yes, SH is not very good this year.
