Thanks to you - I heard it all as it is coming to a close now ....

Re: Serra's Coach Patrick Walsh on KNBR-68 Bay Area Sports Today

OK the interview is centering on the CCS placing Serra on probation & banning Serra from post-season playoffs for the next 2 years. Sports announcer Bob Fitzgerald questioned the entire premise of a consolation bracket and questioned Walsh on what exactly took place. They did mention that the CCS has already done away with the consolation bracket [which I had not heard]. Fitzgerald criticized the CCS punishment in the wake of putting kids health at risk for meaningless games and that cooler heads should review the penalties imposed on Serra and take action to correct it. Fitzgerald also mentioned player's such as Serra's Jack Dreyer who received a full ride scholarship to Stanford and such player's would not risk injury & their scholarships for consolation games [as in why would they?].

From the interview it sounds like the entire matter may get a second look.

Isn't Fitzgerald a Serra grad as well?

Re: Serra's Coach Patrick Walsh on KNBR-68 Bay Area Sports Today

Yes, which is why he frequently drops Serra updates during his shows...

Just like Larry Krueger dropping SI references or Eric Byrnes dropping Lancer references...

Yes Bob Fitzgerald went to Serra class of 1984. Besides being on KNBR bay area sports talk as "Fitz" in the "Fitz & Brooks" segment of the program, Fitzgerald has been announcing the SF Warrior's games for the last 21 years. Below is an artice from just a few days ago in the SJ Mercury about Fitzgerald.

One of the more disturbing revelations about the Serra 2-year ban is that the CCS honcho actually wanted a 3-year punishment. It sounds more personal by the day.

The CCS consolation playoff will be a moot point if the CIF doesn't vote and approve the consolation winner as a state bowl candidate. So now if it doesn't get approved for next seasob, does CCS continue to penalize Serra? The playoff didn't make sense this last season and if it isn't approved - it makes zero sense to continue it.

I read in a Mercury News story that the consolation is already not in effect next year as the CCS goes to three 8-team "A" playoff brackets, followed by a B and C bracket, with only the three winners of the "A" brackets being sent to the 13 regional games.

In this morning's Mercury news:

http://www.mercurynews.com/high-school-sports/ci_27470339/serra-appeals-ccs-sanctions-from-forfeiting-football-game

Previously KNBR Bay Area Sports Talk announcer calls the CCS a "disgrace"

http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_27454940/serra-grad-fitzgerald-calls-ccs-sanctions-absurd

Was not aware until a poster mentioned it in this thread that Commish Nancy stated she considered a 3-year ban on Serra [even though the CCS by-laws state forfeiting a playoff game may result in a 1-year ban. Question: can a loser's consolation bracket game even be regarded as a "playoff game"?

http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_27384927/news-serra-sanctions-reverberates-through-football-community

Is it just me or does this whole thing reek of something personal between Commish Nancy & Serra's Walsh?

Good luck to Serra. Hopefully it gets reduced to one year.

Looks like it's not finalized yet but I see this thing passing because it's better than the current D1-D4+Open format.
