By losing to Bellarmine tonight, Serra just increased its chances for a NorCal title. The loss makes it highly likely the Padres will drop down from the Open to DI or DII for NorCals.

Bellarmine played a great game. They were able to handle serra's pressure, something they struggled with in other two games. Serra looked a little out of whack-a lot of forced shots.

As far as Norcals- Serra should be in division II-I am not so sure they will have an easier time getting to the finals as El Cerritto, Newark, Antelope are all just as good if not better than Serra. Even SI and Mitty will be tough in DII

Serdaprs, why do you say Serra is on a par with EC etc. their ranking is (was?) really high. I think they are a top 20 team in Maxpreps. I'm just curious if you think those rankings are off.

ColHenry, does that move Bellarmine into the Open? Does the CCS have to fill two Open sports?

I would still expect Serra and St Francis to represent the WCAL in the Open division regardless of Serra losing last night. I am pretty sure that Bellarmine doesn't qualify for the Open.

The loss should remove Serra from consideration and Bellarmine doesn't have the resume to move up. This game could really impact Salesian, which was on the fence for the Open Division coming into the week

The news paper guy stated that Serra is more than likely moving to D2. Same situation as Mitty last year. I am not sure why everyone thinks Bellarmine does not qualify for Norcal Open even if they lose? The have won their section CCS D I 3 years in a row. That in itself is a qualification, Regardless of how poor CCS D 1 is. St .Francis was put into the open last year even though they lost and the only qualification was they were ranked high and won a section title two years ago. If Bellarmine wins they are in no matter what as will SF with a loss

EC and Newark have a pretty good strength of schedule and are teams that always seem to give Serra problems. Serra won a lot of close games this year and that is due to Rapp. He gets the most of his talent every year. Serra could easily have 7-8 losses. I personally feel the WCAL was down this year. St. Francis is good but can't see them beating DLS, SAC, Modesto or Moreau.

My question if only two teams can go to norcal in each division....what happens to Mitty if Serra and assuming SI win section D2..Mitty out? Thought if you play in CCS open division its automatic?

Ccs open is automatic to NorCal. However, if playing within division, i.e. D2, making semis does not guarantee NorCal. If Mitty bumps down then lost gators gets bumped to season over, and if Serra and Mitty go to division then looks like Leigh and Los Gatos seasons are over. I think Serra still goes up. Before this week, it looked like 7 teams were a lock for open, MC, Sac, Folsom, Moreau, DLS, Serra, St Francis.
Like i said, I think Serra still goes but maybe now it comes down to Bellarmine and Salesian for 8.
Nice win Bells.

Bells in Nor-Cal open!!!! I need some of that your guys are smoking! They will get blasted in open by any of those teams... I mean come on. I could be wrong but i see no way they should be moved up to open... HMB should have beat them again in quarterfinals, if they didn't turn the ball over 8 times in a row and they also lost to Valley Christian. But it was a nice win for there program.

If they win, they are in the open. But they do qualify for the open even if they lose. We shall find out soon enough. It seems like the norcal open qualifications hasn't been very consistent.

Very true. In past been some head scratchers...this year will be more of the same.

I don't know much about bells. I'm just trying to think like committee...these guys won ccs open... Down or up that will hold weight. I guess we will see

For the CCS, it is four teams per division that move on. First they take the Open Division teams and then add in teams from the original division to make 4. Sometimes that means only the winner from the original division moves on.

Not quite accurate Streak. CCS is quite the anomaly. All 8 teams selected for CCS Open move on to Norcals. If there are 3 teams from the same division in Open, like Div. 2 and 4 this year, ONLY the CCS division winner will move on. The runner-up is out. If there are no teams in the CCS Open like Div. 3 this season only the 2 teams that make it to the Division finals go on to Norcals. So this year, no Div. 3 teams in the Open bracket, so only Riordan and SHC will advance. NCS and SJS send 4 teams form every division. NCS also will send the highest seed out of the quarterfinals, if a team in the Division in selected for the NORCAL OPEN bracket. So, if Salesian were to be elected to NORCAL open, Lick-Wilmerding the 5th seed, will go to Norcals.

And the CCS D1 winner is a fraud who will represent the Section in Norcals. With all due respect to P Hills and O Grove, thats the only reason the Open was created to have schools like that finally get a CCS title without having to play a WCAL school or the top Public School in the Division since they are in the Open too. No wonder there is no write up on the CCS Division 1 Fraudship. Congrats;)

OneDNA, both Oak Grove and Piedmont Hills are not worthy CCS champs this year but to say that they now get a chance to "finally get a CCS title" is just plain ignorant... Oak Grove won CCS D1 titles in 02 and 07... 2002 was one of the strongest years in CCS history, both public and private

Ummmm ok. Its 2016 not 2002 nor 2007. And they are note worthy because the best D1 Private and best D1 Public were both in the Open. So yes, Piedmont Hills finally for their title cause the CCS enabled them too. Thank you, come again ;)
