SHC in St. Hope Classic

SHC couldn't beat Burbank in the St. Hope Classic. It was 72-48. Irish play Pleasant Valley next. Burbank had a 25-point second quarter.

I heard that Melo Dunbar has a broken hand / wrist or something and is / was in a cast and isn't playing.....

I haven't heard anything yet about Dunbar.

Irish beat Pleasant Valley 55-54. SHC will play Oak Ridge on Dec. 29th at 5:00pm at Capital Christian HS.

Unfortunately kid is becoming injury prone. Hopefully back for season. Too bad they didn't still have Tyler Hillman because the WCAL is relatively down this year. Word is SHC ADs holding up his paperwork to transfer to Mission because SHC in same division as Mission. I hope that's not the case. Unless if he was getting serious money to attend SHC and left his senior season (i.e. sour grapes). I hear the kid has been at Mission since September.

Would be nice for their own supporters if SHC played more home games in preseason. SI and Riordan have played at least five home games, respectively.

I don't see why they can't junk the early tournament and schedule some home games.

You can bet Alfred Hollins is missed. It shows. That goes for Nifai Tonga for that matter.

Both SI and Riordan host long-standing tournaments in the Sand Dune and Crusader Classic. Riordan also has a Frosh version of the same format annually. Add in a few non-league games and this ensures at least 5 home games.

SHC has a nice gym. However they habitually get no home court advantage in league due to low energy attendance. Some games more visiting spectators than home. A lot of disconnect between team and student body and alums. More outreach is needed. A home tournament may help. I am sure plenty of teams would like to play in a venue and take advantage of holiday shopping/festivities nearby.

Just a theory, but I would think scheduling mostly road games prior to league saves schools money. Hiring the security, refs, not to mention not enough revenue from admission and no snack bar equals losing money. Most schools arent like Mater Dei with a revolving scoreboard with advertising from car dealerships and other area establishments.

Not sure why if that is true about Hillman. Its not like he a game changer. He's a role player at best. Let him play.

People will show up if there is an NBA caliber player on the court. Gordon's senior year game at SHC was packed.

Yes, he was fun to see in person. Nice kid too. Point is find a way to get more kids and alums to attend games to make atmosphere more intimidating for visiting teams and spark interest in program. Seems more of their kids hang out at Stern Grove than home games. True? I guess no beer is deal breaker.

SHC schedule starting the WCAL is brutal. I cant believe the league scheduled all away games to start the season!

SHC beat Oak Ridge 55-53.

Irish advance to the consolation final of the St. Hope Classic against Kennedy (Sacramento) on Friday, December 30th at 7pm at Johnson HS.

No reason to put that on this board. Kids make mistakes. Arnold will curb those activities if is allowed to play for Mission
This makes more of a case that he should be eligible to play. The rule is in place to stop kids from transferring from school to school for personal reasons.

CIF rules clearly state that if a student is kicked out of a school for ANY disciplinary reason,(let alone the ones Hillman supposedly committed) they will not be signed off to play at their next school for a year. Hillman being a senior, well you guys can figure the rest out. Congrats to SHC for winning that consolation title. This year will be about building for the years to come. Good luck to them the rest of the season.

Both SI and Riordan have had facilities for many years to have tournaments. SH opened their gym in 2000 (??) they should have done something by now.
