Sheldon hits half century mark @ halftime. Up 50-30. Ridiculous 3 point shooting from Huskies. Haven't seen Manning play before, the real deal.

Manning can play in college but he will probably be in the MLB soon. Stud.

Moreau is just a big fat disappointment. Been saying it for years. Frayer goes from 5 start to 2.75 by end of this year. How does that happen.

After last seasons Serra blasting how they can't be prepared once again is beyond me?

I had people jumping down my throat 2 years ago when I said Moreau had a very badly coached team. They are probably the most talented team in Norcal this year, but unless you turn the ball over they have no ability to score.

Sheldon hangs on to win 88-85. Great comeback by Moreau. I think Frayer had 40. Manning 29 for Sheldon. Just too big of a hole for Moreau to dig out off. Both teams played their hearts out. Brown for Moreau had about 15, Milstead only 5. Sheldon was lights out in first half.

Great first half by huskies.Must have hit 10 3's. Drew cobb got his 4th foul with 6 minutes left in 3rd qtr. Devim greene got his 4th with 4 minutes left in 3rd and hung on. Some missed opportunities and some silly turnovers let MC crawl back. . If it wasnt for oscar it would have been ugly. Think he finished with 36 hitting a 3 at end to close the gap to 88-85. Manning had 29 , duplechan 20 and isaiah brooks 19. I only saw Milstead get 1 bucket until 4th qtr.

Don't forget that Milstead missed the whole 2nd quarter with that nasty gash to his face, and Freyer missed the last couple of minutes of the first half with the cut on his hand or he may have had 40.
Moreau must have missed 12 shots within 5 feet in the first 5 minutes as Sheldon scored the first 10 or so points of the game. Manning got hot and pretty soon the lead was 20. But the Mariners didn't give up and clawed their way back into it and got it to 79-76 with 2 minutes left. They traded buckets the rest of the way but the resilient Huskies held on for the victory and will move on.

Didn't seem like it at halftime but it ended up being a great game. Both teams played their hearts out.

I watched online on NFHS Network... The Moreau announcers harped on the decision to not start 12 and 31 quite a bit, moaning that the game story might have been different if the normal starting lineup had started... They didn't have any input on *why* they didn't start, though... Also, I didn't see Milstead get cut in the face and those announcers (very lame announcers, btw, and the worst homers in the history of announcing) didn't mention it... Nor did I know Frayer got a cut on his hand.

Those lame announcers *did* say something about when a Sheldon player got knocked down with a hard (accidental) shot to the face... They said something like "OHHHHHHHH!! TERRIBLE call, but the Sheldon guy is rolling around like he got hit, so they blew the whistle!"

Anyway, great comeback by Moreau, something that probably wouldn't have happened last year.

Kid, it looked like the MC fans where in shock after the game standing around like they lost their puppy. Frayer is the real deal and should do real well at Grand Canyon. Great atmosphere in the gym during the MC comeback, but the game should have been played at East Bay. Like I said in other thread the Open is up for grabs. 2 OT games and 2 3 point games. Wow, some night of high school basketball...

observer..... Mislead went out with 600 left in second and MC was already down 34-14. Frayer went out with 2 minutes left and it was 48-28 and half was 50-30. They both played the second half.

Off tops, thank goodness for NFHS! One thing is for sure. Sheldon is the TRUTH! If you didn't catch that game, then you missed a favorited home team get punched in the mouth by a pack of HUSKIES! As the saying goes, everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth. Much props to Sheldon player's and coaching staff was impeccable from my view. Manning, Brooks, Elijah D, I was most impressed with, but entire starting lineup will make a college roster. The next round should be even better.

Heat, that is pretty much what I said. 6 minutes left is almost the whole 2nd qtr and a couple of minutes left is 2 minutes. I had no horse in that race, but just enjoyed the game. Very impressed with Sheldon and impressed with MC comeback after it looked one they would be boatraced. Got my money's worth!

Observer but in reading your post you made it seem as if The reason sheldon was up was because milstead missed 2nd. I just gave factual data thats it

I was just responding to you saying he had just 1 bucket until the 4th quarter. That may have been true but he missed a great deal of the 2nd quarter. No question Sheldon dominated the entire first half and deserves the victory. I wish them luck vs the other MC and think that'll be another good game.

I read that Milstead, arguably their best player, BROKE his nose in the first quarter! Probably would have been a slightly different outcome if this hadn't happened. I think that folks are generally downplaying this too much.....

He broke it and bled onto frayed so they both had to come out because of the blood rules. That happens in sports but my what a furious comeback

No they were already down big at the point he went down, 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter. They were down 25-9 at the end of 1. It certainly didn't help them in the second quarter, especially when Freyer had to leave with 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter with his thumb bleeding. Both came out strong in the second half to initiate the comeback effort but it wasn't enough.

Also some very questionable foul calls put 2 starters on the bench for Sheldon including there best defender and Greene a 4 year starter, Cobb got his 4th with 6 minutes left in the 3rd and Greene his 4th with 4 minutes left in 3rd . Both sat out until mid 4th if i remember correctly. Sheldon also had some balls roll in/out as well as some balls being saved from OOB which led to fast break layups for Moreau. Frayer hit some shots from the parking lot and they fought hard and never gave up. Grand Canyon got a steal. He's one of the most freakishly athletic players I've seen. At the end of the day its basketball and runs, drama, etc happen . Sheldon rolls on

I remember watching Frayer play as a freshmen and thinking WTF! Similar to Jabari Bird from a size / pure athleticism perspective.

I think he's a more natural athlete and Bird is a better basketball player naturally. He is very good and the body type is very similar.

Sounds like some of you not at game. Take nothing away from Sheldon, they dropped 3's in 1st half like Step and Klay, put up 50. Moreau lost its two best players for most of 2nd Quarter. Milstead for longer as he took inadvertent shot to nose, Frayer cut his finger and had blood all over his shorts. Brown and Molden didnt start due to some disciplinary action, so before we throw coach under the bus, lets remember they are TEACHING lessons to kids through sports. To sit two starters in a NorCal Open playoff game took a lot of balls from coaching staff.

Moreau came out tight missed a lot of easy shots early and got down, then Milstead and Frayer went out and it went from bad to worse. However once they settled in 2nd half it was game on. Down 20 they came back and almost pulled it off, Milstead wasnt quite himself and say what you want about Frayer but he was incredible. Sheldon tightened up in 2nd half, Manning hit a couple of big ones but not like 1st half. This was NOT like Serra last year. Moreau battled and lost to a team of equal caliber by 3.

Too bad for Moreau, tough to get bounced in 1st round 2 years in a row. Would have liked to see that team make a D3 run.

They win State in D3, ...without question at least NorCal as you see O'dowd in D3 semis and Moreau beat them by 30.

Moreau Catholic most definitely belonged in the Open Division. As HSfan82 points out the broken nose suffered by Milstead and Frayer minor injuries contributed to a disappointing loss for the higher seed. Moreau Catholic has at least three D1 players (Frayer, Brown, Milstead) and Lawrence is right up there.

it is interesting that Moreau is ranked by maxpreps at 55 and they are playing in the open where everyone else is top 20.

That ranking makes no sense to me as they played a difficult schedule outside of their conference with wins over Sacramento (14), Sierra Canyon (5) with their only bad loss by 15 points to Santa Margarita (30).

Careful, you're not allowed to say nice things about Knight on here or risk being labeled a heretic. He does no coaching or teaching, he simply runs an AAU team. Of course, an AAU team wouldn't necessarily care about discipline or teaching these guys to become young men, but that's not the official NorCalPreps narrative. Moreau basketball is simply an underachieving bunch. Nevermind that they won Norcal 2 years ago and made the Open the last 2 years after decades of little to no boys basketball success.

Noknight- Been saying this for a long time. Not only are you a hater you are also a racist. Forget about whether he can coach or not.
The sign of a good team is having your guys ready to go. Its the Norcal Open and Sheldon jump all over you at home. They were hungry. The game was over at that point. Is anybody surprised they lost again? I'm not.

Larry Legend- You may have a double standard...? You just posted that, " Moreau let a Sheldon team come to their gym and jump all over them." In a thread regarding Weston Ranch being a #1 seed, I felt the same way that they let a #8 seed come beat them, I don't care if the #8 seed was BOD or Mater Dei. When your the higher seed at home you should be read! Sheldon lost to a powerful Modesto Christian team, Moreau beat up on weaker D3 teams. Perhaps Sheldon should have had a higher seed..??
