Final: SI 50, SHC 47. At end of contest, more than 4,000 observers in attendance at USF. These two programs have been facing one another since the very early 1990s not long after the two schools went coed. Tonight's contest was the WCAL opener for both teams.

I was thinking this year would not be very competitive in the WCAL. But it looks to me like the competition for spots 2 - 6 might be really fun to watch.

The Chronicle reports that the final attendance figure for the boys' game was 5,500. That strains USF's capacity for sure.

Oh I totally agree... but I also think that the league is down this year. I feel its the top moving towards the bottom rather than the other way around. It's possible everyone 2-6 beats up on each other and AM locks up league about 3 weeks early. I see a lot of splits happening

SI's Maddie Ennis: A very tough kid who plays bigger than her listed 5-10. She injured an ankle in the SHC contest. Her presence on the floor is a must for SI as more physical WCAL units await.

Good to know. Hope she won't miss any time. If she is as important to the team as you say she is then props to her for working hard and getting better. I've seen her play in the past and she was definitely a hard worker and would bang inside with anyone, but I thought she lacked some skills. Mike always seems to have kids play bigger than their size.

Well, I know less about SI so far this year than I did about Pres. I don't know the significance of the presence/absence of Ennis, so I will give one spread a shot. I usually like Mulkerrins' gameplan against the monarchs, but just looking at their roster on maxpreps Ennis is their tallest player at 5-10. Even with her, I see matchup problems for the Wildcats (who doesn't though vs the monarchs?) Without her, could be a nightmare though, the next tallest "post" is 5-9 Kerry Fitzgerald, if she is who I think she is, she was on JV last year and not a formidable post on that level so I can't see who would be able to guard Blakes let alone the other 6 footers with ball skills.

I am just ranting now... I will say AM -27

Well I was off by about 13 or so.. AM got it to running clock. Ennis may have made a small difference but SI just doesn’t look the same to me when they have to play zone the whole game.
