Vanden v. Lincoln…. The one in Lincoln, not Stockton.

Vanden has ripped a hole in their side of the bracket, crunching everyone in their path…. Lincoln has won pretty comfortably, too…. Overall, Vanden’s sked has been quite a bit higher-rated, but we can see how big a difference that made in the D5 boys’ game just concluded. Made no difference at all….

This game is on the NFHS Network. Vanden is just too big, too strong, too quick, and better team effort overall than Lincoln (Lincoln). Vanden is just dominating and blocking so many of Lincoln's shots near the key. Vanden is a D3 team, but could compete at the Open or D1 level. Where should Vanden be placed in the NorCal playoffs?

74-36 Vanden with a minute plus to go…. Vanden looks very impressive.

I would put them as a high D1 seed.

Now we get Folsom vs Oak Ridge, two highly-rated teams that know each other REALLY well, being in the same league and having played each other three times.

Folsom won the first two of those, but Oak Ridge won the last one.

On NFHS, I saw the tail end of Folsom’s win to get here, done with a perfectly-run baseline inbounds play to win by one…. quite a play.

Look like Folsom going box and 1 on the wash commit brown. I like this. Folsom is going to say beat me with somebody else.

They’ve got a 9 point win over SRV in addition to their gaudy 25-3 record and dominance in their sectional.
Vanden then lost to VC three days later and also lost to St Ignatius about 5 weeks later. And played in a weak playoff bracket so they don’t have an unblemished resume after that win.

1:30 left…

Folsom steal!! Drive full-speed, layup just rolls out…. Foul. FT’s both miss…. Folsom rebound, putback try fails…. OR ball, 41-37, 53 seconds left.

Okay, I can’t even text this…. Too much to type. LOTS of fouls and mostly missed FT’s later, OR pulls it out, 41-40. Holey Guacamole!

Folsom lost because they were 1 for 10 on free throws. Got to make those free throws when it comes down to a big, close game.

Yeah always tough shooting in these big arenas.
But OR made good adjustments at Half. OR get pulled up to open?

With this Section win for Oak Ridge, does that mean that Oak Ridge and Folsom should be selected for the NorCal Open division? When was the last time that St. Mary's was NOT in the Open division?

St. Mary's has made it every year (only program to do it I believe). I think Oak Ridge and Folsom get pulled up.

I think Oak Ridge has to be pulled into the Open division, even though they probably didn't think they would ever be in that position. But when they got the #1 seed, that changed everything.

OR winning section as #1 seed will have to be in open.
Sjs got the seeding right for girls d1

I don't like to take results as seedings being right. Teams should be seeded on their resume and I don't think Oak Ridge's resume stacked up to be #1, but it has also been talked about that they won the coin flip to get the league champion designation so the section might not have had a choice.

What happens if Oak Ridge had to host St. Mary's in the semis and Folsom hosted McClatchy? It isn't an even road to get to tonight's game.

That said, major props to Oak Ridge winning tonight and winning the last two games against Folsom. Brown is on the short list for Player of the Year.

Dancing baby starts franchising and turns the Folsom gym into his/her second disco location!
