Question....do the losers in these games get placed back into their rightful sections and divisions like
they do in the CCS? or are they done?

anybody know the answer?

thanks....

Interesting disclaimer.....in the release

Besides a championship bracket the Open Division will feature a "consolation" bracket as well which allows schools who lose in the first round to still qualify for the CIF State tournament bywinning that bracket. Schools who lose in the first round and in the consolation bracket may still qualify for the state tournament if they meet the criteria set forth by the State CIF

I re-read this and it appears that at least the first round winners are eliminated from competing in their designated divisions. It does seem unclear as to how the consolation winner is still eligible. Does the winner of the consolation bracket get to play the winner of the regular bracket but have to beat them twice to be the South representative? The wording is not very clear in this respect. Very confusing.

The fact that the consolation finals are played on March 6 would allow all the losers to still be slotted into their respective division playoffs to represent the Southern section in the Stat finals. The only thing still confusing is what happens to the Consolation winner? Do their have another shot at representing in the open? Do they enter into a double elimination tournament with better teams who advanced farther in the Open winners bracket? Again there are open dates til the 21st of March when the North plays their finals for the State representative. What happens during those obvious open dates has not been released yet. Is the North planning to do the same thing?

It does sort of make sense in that it eliminates a lot of filler games for the top teams. They don't end up playing basically meaning less playoff games in their respective divisions in the sectional rounds. It would imply that all open eligible teams do not play in their respective sections but are plugged directly into the regional playoffs.

What I forgot to address is what do the winners of the Open bracket do from the 7th of March til the the 28th when the State Championships are slated to be played. It would appear to be common sense that the initial Open playoff brackets are just the preliminary step to deciding the Regional representatives. With the winner of the Consolation bracket being plugged into some secondary stage playoff. With perhaps at least Winner of the first stage ( possibly more teams) getting a first round bye. It would make no sense that the winner of this bracket would sit idol until the 28th.

The guys down in SoCal are saying this means that
Sierra Canyon now doesn't belong in the Socal Open
,,,that they belong in the Divisional Championships,,,,
,,,here we go again.... sounds to me like
they are going to send 6 teams again and stack the
Divisional Playoffs...

Gaming the system????
Or being Smart????
