Someone in Sacramento and San Jose should promote this.

Here's a sure money maker. Schedule 4 teams from the WCAL and 4 teams from the SFL every year. These games would be rotated from the Bay to Sac every year. Name it the Bay/Sac classic. Games would be played at either San Jose State or Sac State. Get sponsors involved such as Under Amour, Nike, Max Preps and local sporting shops/stores etc, etc, etc.

For example here's the first schedule of the matchups:

Bellarmine vs Folsom
Saint Francis vs Del Oro
Serra vs Rocklin
Valley Christian vs Granite Bay

*If done right this could be a huge event. Just food for thought. Someone might already be planning this as I type it. Who knows.....I'll sit that right there.;)

Lil Bowl Series Challenge.

I like it PG!

God bless.
Yeah RP someone will figure it out. This is a cash cow of an idea if someone promotes it correctly. They do something similar out here in Georgia where they have top programs play each other at the Corky Kell Classic. The promoter of this classic is making a $killing$.;)

About Corky Kell Classic
tickets_front.png

In 2016, the Classic will grow from seven to nine games with 18 teams participating. The Classic will open in Macon at Mercer University for two games, then move to McEachern High School for two more before the five games at the Georgia Dome. The Classic will move to the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017. Launched in 1992, the MetroPCS Corky Kell Classic is a Georgia high school football event and was the first event ever to be held at the Georgia Dome. The Classic kicks off the highly competitive high school football season in Georgia every August with partial proceeds benefiting the Kell Foundation to fund scholarships. Throughout the years the games have included top talent in both Georgia and across the nation. Marketed and operated by Score Atlanta and a group that includes former successful high school coaches Dave Hunter and Jim Dorsey, in the past four years the Classic has reached more than 3.25 million television and internet viewers with a total game attendance of more than 200,000 fans.

Corky is a great event.(sorry Pops) and I like your proposal and personally agree.

But the reality is now days the intrigue is pretty much OOS. Hell the CIF doesn't even care or see the benefit of about having the best regional teams play each other in an open game.

This type of event could possibly one day help out schools or leagues like the OAL in California.

Several years ago, there was the Battle of The Capitol and then it changed names and very good teams were matched up...the only problem, all the early games which had good matchups, drew lite crowds and the home team...Del Oro at the time was the only team to fill the stands...This may or may not do what people think as not every team will strong year after year, resulting in one sided scores....But this is a good idea....

I remember the Battle of the Capitol games. Watched Pleasant Grove go at it against Lincoln (Stockton). The place had a big draw and so did the night cap game between Del Oro and Westlake. Not sure who the promoter was but I personally believe he did a decent job but not a great job with that event. You have to get the big time sponsors behind you and I don't remember seeing any. Don't quote me on this because I could be wrong. There were things that I would have done differently to make that event more successful that's for sure. For one, we don't need a Westlake team just yet. We have teams like Elk Grove, Grant, Oakdale, Campolindo, Foothill and many more perennial powers in NorCal to fill the bill. Get the local Radio stations behind it as well as the "Sac Bee" to "The Oakland Tribune" and "San Jose Mercury." It will take a great deal of good planning but if done right it will be a gold mine. What football junkie wouldn't go see Bellarmine vs Folsom or Saint Francis vs Del Oro next year??? And make sure the key players and coaching match ups are the talk of the town. How does the game of two tactical minds of SHP Lavorato vs Campolindo Macy sound to ya. PUMP, PUMP, PUMP IT UP!!!!!!

PGownsWHITNEY....You are right about the battle of the capitol's, there was not much promoting, which didn't help teams get the support they needed....there were great match up's such as CC vs. Cardinal Newman, Franklin vs.SCP, Concord vs. whitney, Pittsburg vs. Granite Bay...Pleasant Grove vs Lincoln(Stockton) which turned out to be a real shootout....Del Oro vs Westlake and many more...I was a crispy critter after it was all over...

I like the concept of pitting two leagues or two sections in a week 0 showcase. It would help the rankings and pecking order in NorCal amongst some of the better teams early in the season. The only issue I had with the "Battle of the Capitol" was the early games would run long and the later games were postponed by a couple of hours the year I went. All-in-all they're were some great teams and competitive games.

If I had an investor I would make this event bigger than life. Feeder and Youth football programs would be a big part of this event as well.

Promotor is Mark Soto of The Honor Group, he continues to put on Socal and Norcal events Week 0 and Week 1 showcases with proceeds benefiting wounded vets. Past two years Socal has been big, and Norcal scaled back. Del Oro has participated in both Norcal and Socal venues for mult years. It would not surprise me if '16 events are already in the can and sold out.

Del Oro is already playing at Bellarmine next year. Just need to get the other ones on board. I also read somewhere that both DLS and Folsom have week 8 openings next year. Someone needs to hook that up!

and the new coach and new offensive schemes gave DO the W.

No, the fact that Del Oro was the better team regardless gave them the W. The rest is just excuses.

Their RB that year was Bryce something- tough as nails. Had an obvious concussed wobbly walk, Taylor put him back in. Carried them on his shoulders.

Bryce Pratt.

You should be a doctor since you can make a positive and, of course, accurate evaluation from the stands.

BTW, not cool to insinuate that a respected HC like Casey Taylor put a kid's health at risk when you have no idea what did or didn't transpire on the sidelines.

I was at that game. I don't think it ended until about midnight as it was the last game of the night. Pratt was a beast and led DO to a 2nd half comeback. I do recall him getting blasted and coming back in and continuing to play. That was prior to all the recent attention and protocols involving concussions that we have today and I'm sure we'll have many more in the next few years.

This would be more intriguing right now. Build on this format and make it bigger in a few years.
When you look back at all the teams that played in the :Battle at the Capitol: and the Honor bowl, with a few exceptions, every game was very good....When Sacramento high played a Oregon team, I was real disappointed as I counted 21 Sac fans at that game and there were about 60 players on the field while the Oregon team had almost 100, but Sac gave them a good beating....The teams from Nevada did not do well, but in the early going, the scheduling brought in very good choices..I'd like to see The Battle of The capitol or the Honor Bowl brought back....

Sounds like an concept you gotta kick the tires on. If I win the lotto I'll throw down on it lol. Somewhere, some place there is an investor because the idea is great. Sounds like a venture for 2017-2018

If the Corky Kell Classic is growing by leaps and bounds every year in Georgia this can do the same in California. California is twice the size of Georgia. Sponsor up and this is a great investment.

I'm sure if there were willing sponsors, someone would do this. Hard to pull it off in the prep scene out here.

It wasn't on the coach but his medical staff. Yes, I have a doctorate. Yes, I've had a grade 3. Yes, both of mine have had grade 1's. So I know a little about it and I know what I saw in person, and on film.

As far as DO's win, you obviously have little knowledge nor appreciation of the transition Cal High was going through from one year Sanchez getting them within 7 of Bellevue (up there) and the next when the rookie HC changed things up.

We need movies about the proper way to play the game, namely tackle and hit. Not movies about how dangerous concussions are.
