I just saw that this NCS Open Championship is being held on the home court of Carondelet on Friday at 7pm. I thought these games are held at a Neutral site as it looks like the CCS and the SJS Championships are being held at Neutral Sites. Is this just the NCS appeasing Carondelet? Doesn't seem to align to history or the other sections.

Either way, it should be a good game and the game that many hoped would come to play.

This what it says in the NCS 2022 Basketball Championship Playoff Guide:
*NCS may adjust sites and times in the Open Division for the good of the tournament. ^NCS Open teams receive a two-game guarantee. See additional language on page 4.
APPLICATION TO HOST Yearly applicationsto host may be filled out by the athletic director on CIFHome. Schools whose school site does not meet the criteria to host may arrange to host at a facility other than their own, in their geographical area at no cost to the North Coast Section. As a reminder, for 2021-22, home sites will be used for the finals.

But even the Oakland Section with it's small number of competing schools are using a neutral site.

Our section (Central) is all being hosted at the higher seed’s site. We usually play at Selland Arena but they had to pull the plug on it for this year due to Covid restraints

NCS did the same thing for football. I don't know if it is COVID, finances, etc, but there is precedent going back to the fall.

From the NCS Board of Managers minutes dated 4/16/2021:
"As part of a full championship financial review and a conservative approach to 2021-22, this proposal would help reduce the expenses of the Section. NCS incurred championship site rental fees of approximately $11,000 in 2019-20 in baseball, softball, basketball and football.
By moving away from ‘Designated Championship Sites’ in 2021-22, and hosting games at home sites through the finals, the Section would save approximately $11,000."

So they save money, but the kids don’t get that championship site experience, and us fans only get to see 1 game a day. I used to love getting some good seats down low and seeing 4 or 5 championship games in a row at SMC.

I know its economics and it takes money to run these sites because of staffing, but man they have go fund me accounts for everybody. This can easily be fixed with some donations from all those rich people out there. Also, why not host all at one of the larger high school gyms.

It is because of Covid and the regulations for people to get into the games: ala full vaccine and/or negative test. you don't need proof at most high schoo games. Also, save a ton of money. I heard NCS is nearly broke cause no championships last year...

In this particular case, it would’nt have been difficult or expensive to at least use DLS’ much lareger gym, a few hundred feet away…. The boys are on the road, gym is open…
