The next huge game...hopefully the Paul VI dad u streams this one again

What time is this game?
Your article says 12:45. ..is that EST?

Not sure if St. John's pulls the sweep off if Paul VI will take much of a fall with the 2nd loss on some charts. A few 1 loss and undefeated untested teams are fortunate to get high praise without much challenge. It should be a good game. I had them splitting in their 2 game matchup. Now I think St. John's may be confident their the better team. They just have to be careful not to go in too confident. By the way.... who has the home cooking in this game?

I think Paul VI better not overlook Our Lady of Good Counsel tonight even though they blew them out in the last game. Our Lady recently played St. John's and only loss by 2 points. The game is at Our Lady so who knows it might be more of a test than one might think.

But then again.........

I guess on some polls Paul will now be #1 again? Since the last time when they were #1 ( on some polls) and St. John's beat them St. John's leaped over teams that were more worthy than they were and became #1 (on some polls). I guess that is why there's a need for multiple polls. And multiple brains. If I were a betting man I would have bet they would split. So no surprise there. Although after St. John's seemed to (based on score and lack of challenge) somewhat easily beat Paul, I would not have been surprised to have seen St. John's win both games. I guess that's why they play the game. And I guess that is why the more teams are challenged the better you determine just who is best at that point. And tough tournaments tend to be the best test teams can face. Playing multiple games, against many of the best in the nation, in back to back days, against unknown opponents, on the road with no home cooking, Unknown refs, and all eyes watching.

Sounds like it was a pretty good game.

The two will likely play again, and if PVI wins, they will probably be No. 1 in the ESPN poll, but probably no others.

The WCAC, as it turned out, was not nearly as strong as expected ...

If you were to follow the same format as the NCAA. A preseason tournaments do not ultimately determine a national champion or number one in the polls at the end of the season. It truly would have come down to a post season national tournament (unfortunately this would never happen) a true national champion endures the rigors of a tough schedule, injuries, game to game adjustments and consistent coaching guidance throughout. Keep in mind as we enter the post season to keep an eye on those teams that have been tested in close hard fought games as of late against quality opponents instead of teams that go against familiar lesser quality opponents and blowing them out by full court pressing the entire game and continuously shooting 3's even when having the game is well in hand by halftime.

This would have been Mitty's title to claim but unfortunately they lost and lost again so we can cry about the rankings but two losses is tough to argue, especially when neither of those teams will be #1

No shame in losing to nationally ranked teams. Mitty had there share of success against nationally ranked teams. Teams in California on a whole faired extremely well this season on a national stage. National polls as you can tell carry a fair amount of subjectivity based on differing view points. Realistically, teams like Mitty and the rest of teams in Calif are now truly focused on what they can control which is a state championship.

No shame but definitely a blown once in a lifetime opportunity.

There is a difference between team success and individual success -- though your point is well taken.

Still, just as for most programs, a chance at a state title is a once-in-30-years proposition, so is the shot at a national title for Mitty. And just like SMS last year, Mitty had the all the pieces in place to make it happen. Admittedly, it was still a 1-in-3 chance, most likely, but 1-in-3 beats the 1-in-30,000 for most schools.

Ok, back to my earlier point and I'll add this. Mitty has always had a team first mentality and it really exemplifies itself on the court. They play extremely well together and work toward the common goal of winning. You could say most girls on that team would score much more in other programs or their individual stats would be much higher.

As I said earlier the only thing at this point in their control is a state championship.

As a bonus to all this fortunately the girls have earned college basketball at great institutions.

Mitty is a very good team, however they got 10th place at the TOC. That tournament is a big hurtle for any team trying to win a national championship. They also got upset by Salesian last year in the open and I believe the year before they didn't qualify for the open. This is one of their better teams that I've seen. The best team I've seen this year is the team from Colorado. Grandure? Not sure that spelling is correct.

I am not putting Mitty down but I am also not a parent on the team drinking the Kool Aid. I was merely pointing out that the National Championship was right there for them and they let a once in a lifetime opportunity slip away or better yet, get taken right out of their hands, two times.

It will be interesting if CW comes north as expected.

Beat Mitty by a point or two and beat SMS by 12...
but lost in OT to MCD 66 to 60...

I must have seen the MCD v GV game as I had the package on the Web....
but I can't remember the game....another senior moment....

Smith Bracket...

Mitty's 18 point loss ended it all for them...you can't lose to anyone by 18 and win the National Championship...it was effectively over that day

Lol, no mitty parent here and not drinking any Kool Aid. I do appreciate the program and the approach it has to the game. I've seen them play on numerous occasions. Once again, a national championship is great and if it's a missed opportunity so be it. I repeat again, a state championship is more in control than a national championship.

I agree that it would be interesting if CW comes north. A Mitty vs CW would be a great game. I personally think a LBP vs Mitty would be a better game.

If CW stays south, I really believe a repeat game with LBP would be a different result than their game in Hawaii.

I agree that the loss looks bad and is hard to recover from.. and in reality it was a closer game than that. I watched that second half online and the game was never out of hand until late when mitty had to try to trap (no shot clock) and push tempo against an equally if not more athletic team in order to give themselves a chance... obviously that didnt work and the score ended up as it was, but you'll never see coach phillips coach for a closer loss in december (or ever for that fact) thinking about how pollsters will look at it.. unfortunately, months later you just see the lopsided end result

high school national championship is a fantasy. anyone is free to enjoy his/her fantasy with other consenting adults. in our culture. for now.

The Mitty-Grandview game was something. Grandview literally did not make a shot outside the paint the entire game. Mitty threw the ball away on inbounds plays at least twice, I think three times, with no exceptional pressure -- and generally played poorly. I would say that if they played Grandview ten times, they win seven. But the scoreboard doesn't lie ...

And Clovis West just clocked St. John's College, up by 20+ in the fourth quarter. But Mitty beat Clovis West on a neutral court. Of course, that was by one, in OT, but again, the scoreboard doesn't lie ...

And the 24-point loss to Centennial in Stockton wasn't a good look.

It looks like Riverdale will back in to the national title ... depressing.
