I think the point is that the refs should have handled business well before it got to that point. And even at that instance should have been running to get between the 2 players tied up, knowing that it would escalate more than things already had. It didn't take but 2 minutes of that video to know that sh** started well before the fight broke out. It wasnt random and once it gets to a certain point, you are right, adults have to step in and clean things up.As someone who was there I feel the need to speak up and shed some light on the situation because I'm feeling as if the parents running on to the court to pull their kids out of the melee had been another race then that wouldn't even have been a concern. We'd probably be focus on how the parents all came to pull their kids out of the melee because they are good parents. The concern was the kids that came out of the stands to participate and of course the team that had players literally attacking two SMS players once the Melee ensued. The tech parents were all supporting of their kids within the spirit of competition and fun for the most part. I had fun with some parents from tech as we cheered for both of our teams. I was in the mix of the melee trying to keep it from escalating further and keep the pile from growing while coaches and parents tried to pull kids out of it. From what I saw and I was in the mix the parents that ran out there were all pulling there kids out of it and rightfully so. No one wants their kids to be involved in that. And there was no security or law enforce so who was gonna break it up? If the parents didn't come out to pull their kids out of it you'd probably be saying "where were the parents" 🤷🏿♂️
What is your point? All you said was "sad to see it happen" earlier. So what the heck are you talking about? The person you are defending must share the same sentiment as you since you are defending him and he made no comments about the ref. So what point are you referring because I don't see a comment from anyone here about the refs. That's another discussion. In a perfect world the hypotheticals happen refs faculty etc. what have you but it didn't so now what? Stand watch and let the kids fight?I think the point is that the refs should have handled business well before it got to that point. My issue is that the adults already on the court and in control of the game (refs, coaches, even administrators) could have done so much more to prevent it from getting that far, and that fans/parents should never have to intervene in that way.
The videos are not a good look for the schools, players, refs, parents, ect. and its a shame that it will take away from could have been an otherwise great night of hard fought competitive sports. Defend your actions as you may but it doesnt excuse the entire situation.
And it's so unfortunate because the kid can actually go on the court. Long and plays aggressive defense. It was a bad look that it escalated to the point where parents had to go out to pull their kids out of it. But there were faculty pulling kids as well but it wasn't enough.Just heard from a Tech parent that the Tech player who slapped the st, marys girl (which triggered the incident) has a history of fighting and suspensions at school.
yea an incident like that is sad to see in any sport at any age.. I don't think anyone would dispute that. What is your point? All you said was "sad to see it happen" earlier. Beyond that, and maybe beyond your reading comprehension... I was trying AGREE with you in that parents (no matter what race) would have stepped in, like you did given that situation. I don't get who you thought I was defending, because if I was defending anyone, it was you and the other parents. I am putting onus on the refs and coaches for allowing things to get to a point of no return. If I was not clear in my first post, I hope this clears it up.
the refs are never to get between players. especially high school girls. that is a recipe to get caught slipping by a dad, uncle, mom, hanger on, then end up in court for 'touching my baby'. their job is to step back, observe who threw a punch and who left the bench.I think the point is that the refs should have handled business well before it got to that point. Haha ok bud.. sleep tightI don't think you can see your own condescension or you choose not to see it. What got me about your first post was "Defend your actions as you may but it doesn't excuse the entire situation." No one was excusing the entire situation. I was speaking to the effort to try and clean the mess up that got to a point that it never should have. And "beyond my reading comprehension?" You are intentionally throwing in insults and trying to clean it up and that's not my cup of tea.
I'm was there with SMS, if you see the video our kids weren't the aggressors, our kids remained on the bench. 2 of our players got the worse of it by almost the entire team. What I'm not going to do is trade insults behind keyboards. So here is my Twitter with a picture of who I am as well. if you ever want to synch up and have a beer(Which I don't drink) and discuss hoops I will gladly put it on my tab and get you a cab home. They call me JP everyone who knows me knows that I am a man of integrity and character and always looking out for student-athletes. But what I am not going to do is sit here and trade barbs behind a keyboard. So here I will put my face with this account and you do the research and you will find out who I JP is. And if you ever wanna synch up and chat girls hoops I'd be glad to do so. But I'm not gonna trade sneaky insults. I'm too much of a stand-up person for that. But hey, now you know who I am maybe one day I will learn who you are so when we cross paths we can look each other in the eyes and shake hands the way men do. Blessings to you and peace be with you.
There is nothing positive out of this. This is a disgrace for the game and the community. We have to better than what transpired last night.Let’s make sure we point all the positives and not let this negative sequence outweigh the energy that was in that place.
The community came and supported both teams at a high level last night. The girls were competing back and forth. Overall great hate to see it end on that occasion. Game ended 62-54 SMS.
Parents should not be on the floor. If one parent is allowed out on the floor then they are all allowed out and where does it stop?As someone who was there I feel the need to speak up and shed some light on the situation because I'm feeling as if the parents running on to the court to pull their kids out of the melee had been another race then that wouldn't even have been a concern. Swept under the rug. Move on and play more games.

I agree with much of what you said except the above statement. Why should black people collectively share guilt, blame and shame for the actions of a few? I'm over that. Should other races, i.e. whites, collectively share the guilt and responsibility of serial killers, school, mall and movie theater shooters? The U.S. Capital insurrection? Let's put the blame of heinous acts on the perpetrators and not the community at large. It's not about race. And though it was an ugly scene -- judging from the accounts here -- let's not blow it out of proportion. Hold those responsible accountable and let's play ball.It was definitely disappointing for this to happen and all we need as Black people is more images of us and Student Athletes on TV in an unpleasant light.
No one disregarded the negative activity but it seems to be the only thing that wants to be highlighted of course.Swept under the rug. Move on and play more games.
