On a side note I just heard that under tight security Notre Dame had been practicing at Serra High School in preparation for the Stanford game tonite [wished I'd found out sooner ].

Decided to see who localy is on the current roster:

Stanford:
Keller Chryst - Soph. QB from Palo Alto High
Ryan Gaertner - Jr. CB out of SHP
Kevin Anderson - Sr. LB out of Palo Alto High [starter]
Jack Dreyer - Frosh OL from Serra

Notre Dame:
Amir Carlisle - Jr.RB/WR from King's Academy played one season for USC and did well despite injuries before transferring to ND after sitting out a year. Shd see action in today's game.

Stanford: Austin Hooper - Jr. TE from San Ramon out of De La Salle HS [starter]

What a reply. Stanford needed that, but the way ND has been moving the ball I don't know that the Card will hold the lead at halftime.

At the game and ND looks much faster in person than on TV. Impressive.

Huh? Hooper will be playing on Sunday's. Guy is going to have a nice long NFL career.

Not denying his talent, but there was a lot of hype this would be a breakout season and would put up similar type numbers to Ertz. Although, I think part of what has hampered his production has been a better cast of WR's than Stanford has had in awhile along with a sustained period of Stanford blowouts in the middle of the season, and of course McCaffrey.

Didn't know he had made the final 3 for Mackey though. He is a great blocker, but thought under 400 yards wouldn't get him there. Man looking at the finalists stats, production at that position appears to be down.

This has a been a slugfest so far. The line play for both sides is off the charts. On every play somebody is getting lit up.

Part of me thinks Stanford should let them score but ND has been terrible with a short field.

Mackey award is for an inline TE. More of a traditional NFL type TE so production is not of high priority. Hooper fits the Mackey mold vey well.

I think the production for Hooper is a result of what gades said above. Basically scheme and game plan. Rector has speed on the outside, Cajuste is kind of like a teeener TE on the outside. Throw in MCCafrey and Love and it's not the Touchdown Tommy and Toby pound it up the middle with the play action to the TE offense of the old Cardinal. Still think Shaw is too conservative in big games (why not go for 2 tonight) though.

Shaw just said the best thing regarding rankings. The term upset is thrown around too much. I use a sliding scal

He was tripping not going for 2 and it came back to bite him. Worked itself out in the end but put them in a situation they didn't have to be.
