State Bowl Placement Video by M Tennis

This clarifies a lot of questions I had. One thing I would object strongly to would be to have teams in the same section play each other in a regional. A LOT of the fun in these regional bowl games is to have teams play other teams from other sections, especially when it's difficult to schedule them for a non-conference game in the regular season. Bellarmine vs St. Francis is a great rivalry but we've seen that game played so often in the CCS playoffs it kind of loses it's appeal. Bellarmine or St. Francis vs Grant...now that's a game to look forward to.

Excellent breakdown, and completely shows how stupid this system is. You essentially are taking the #1, #2, #4, #6, #8, etc... teams to make state rather than take the top teams. They should match up the #1Seed vs #24 Seed, #2 vs #23, etc... and that way you reward the top teams in the North and top teams in the South. If you hypothetically match up Folsom vs Clayton Valley, arguably the #2&3 ranked teams, why would you not want to get them both into the State bowl game?

At the very least they should break it down by actual enrollment before doing the regional pairings, then you have some strong smaller schools with a good shot at making state. Like Sacred Heart Prep with only 550 enrollment would have gotten burned by this system last year. They would have gone undefeated in the CCS Open and would be a top Northern seed and could have been paired up with Folsom in the Northern regional. How is that fair or rewarding to a smaller school?

Edit: Actually I completely forgot about the Small School Open, which is where SHP probably would have been slotted. But still, I'm not a fan of a smaller school being paired up with a larger school just because they're ranked higher. They should keep it based on enrollment.

I believe the #2 and #3 ranked teams would be Folsom and Elk Grove. CV gets a cakewalk to this game but Folsom or EG will have a much tougher road. And if I heard him right CCS gets a second place team? If that is the case why wouldn't the loser of Elk Grove or Folsom get in? Right now the way they are seeding regardless of enrollment isn't fair to some teams

So, why don't we just have all 1000+ schools play for a state title? Someone has to lose along the way.

Please note that the team SHP beat for the CCS Open title was Bellarmine, who's CBED was over 3000. Furthermore, they would not have been paired with Folsom in the absence of a Small School Open Division, as is evident by the selection of Grant last year. They probably would have been paired opposite Clayton Valley, which would have actually been an interesting game.

Despite what Mark has on his board, I don't think it is very likely that the CIF would want any rematches in the regional games. I'd be willing to bet a small amount of money that Bellarmine would be chosen to meet Folsom/Elk Grove and St. Francis would meet Clayton Valley.

I also refuse to listen to any talk about the CIF considering crowds. That's just nonsense and really irresponsible for someone in Tennis's shoes to suggest.

Folsom and EG will play each other in the SJS section, and the winner will be the likely #2 seed behind DLS. Because the SJS does not have an open division, only the section winners can move on to these bowls. The CCS chose to do 3 opens and 2 non-eligible playoffs in order to be able to select 2 additional runner ups. Seeding in the NorCal Bowls is based on strength of the teams regardless of their size.
